We have a 94 ATX with the top of the line JBL audio system. The factory Sony CD changer (#F4FF-18C830-AA) won't play CDs and keeps sending error messages to the controller display. Where can I get a replacement CD changer for this car? It has a proprietary-looking cable connector at the back and I just want to buy another CD changer that will "plug and play" so to speak. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Check out ebay or junk yards. I've seen them on ebay is yours a changer in the trunk or the add on unit under the radio. There is a ladie by the name of pam who sells stereo's on ebay she gives the info to call her on her post. She can look it up and see if she has one and also tell you what other vehicals they were put in. To find a post by her just go to ebay/Auto parts/ and search for Taurus and star hunting. There are other options like an after market RF changer.

i'm about 90% certain that you can buy a sony CD changer with the same design on the connector. I think they have a new design now, so you're looking for an older model. I think you can just yank the changer itself and leave all the wiring with the remote and the RF module there.

I would be very happy if I could buy a new replacement changer that just plugs right in using the original connectors. I'm going to take this changer down to the local high-end audio shop and ask them what they suggest. I'm sure they'll try to sell me the latest and greatest changer but I just want to find out what works. I'll post an update here once I find out more.

The same CD player was used in most Fords of the same vintage, so you could get one from a Mustang, Crown Vic, Sable, etc.

Guys, all I had to do was buy a new Sony CD changer and it plugged right in - problem solved. Apparently, all of the new Sony CD changers still use the same connectors as the old ones. Thanks for all of your help.
