What's normal for you guys on MPG?

Before I fixed all the issues with my car...could go (2) weeks on a tank of gas.

The car has consumed just over 1/2 tank of gas since I filled up last Thursday! What the heck?!

I noticed that fuel economy started to suffer around the same time my alternator went out (that's been changed).

Would a CPS cause this poor MPG? I know for a fact that this sensor is bad (all the symptoms).

With all new o2 sensors, new fuel pump, freshly cleaned k&n air filter, and 89 octane fuel I get around 18mpg around town and between 26 and 29mpg on the highway. This is with my 93 ATX, btw.

I only don't have a new fuel pump from this list. I started putting premium fuel in my car around the same time. Would that do it?!

From what I understand octane doesn't really affect mpg. When was the last time the tune-up items were replaced? Spark plugs, wires, etc ? And I forgot to mention that I never use my AC, cuz it doesn't work. Haha

I bought the car recently and replaced all these items within 500 miles.

My A/C has a small leak. If I run around without using it all the freon will leak out, but if I leave it running the freon will not leak out. Hehe

Name brand gas, right?

I'd pull the plugs to make sure that there is nothing wrong with the fuel/ignition system, but in my case, fouled O2 sensors were at fault. MPG dropped several notches, down into the low teens. SHO did not run well either. Are you experiencing driveability issues?

Another thing to check would be the vapor canister. Maybe it's not purging properly.

Same gas I've always used...I can try another brand on the next fuel-up which at this rate won't be but a few more days!

Both O2 sensors were changed right after I bought the car (also within 500 miles). The car runs smooth and has seemingly good power.

I have a definite drivability issue right now...failing CPS. ;)

One thing my brother pointed out...the fuel engages with a loud thunk and whines loud enough to be heard over the exhaust.

Somewhere we have a whole thread on what can effect MPG.

Stuck open Tstat, where does the temp needle point? This can **** mpg

Dragging rear brakes, this is common and subject of a current thread ( multiple causes)

It is true that running the lowest octane, prior to the computer puling back on timing due to the know sensor, gets the most MPG. Ford went back and did a study on used SHO engine octane requirements (noted in a Car and Driver editorial) and found it did not need permium, but that the computer began pulling timing as octane decreased. I forget the details, but I in the winter I always mix 87 and 93 in equal proportions, to get 90 octane, usually about 10 cents a gallon cheaper than what they get for straight 89 octane, will add extra premium in the dead of summer.

I bought some springs from rockauto that fit around the calipers to help retract the pads (similar to what OEM Vovlo does), have not had a chance to fit them yet.

Well I just broke out the calculator and did the math.

The last tank of gas was about 250 miles or so...16 gallons. That's just over 15mpg town driving only with the A/C always on (it's too hot in south Louisiana for the A/C to be off).

Nevermind I guess right. :angelnot:

Well here is what I've been finding with the car.

I changed the cam sensor and went to name-brand gas at the same time so no telling which (I presume both) had the positive change most.

Calculating MPG this morning on my last tank (in-town only) and it came out to 17.8mpg.

Dang good I'd say!

The other thing to consider with an ATX is that when the weather is cold the torque converter doesn't lock up for awhile. This will adversely affect the MPG in the colder months... Only applies to ATX, obviously.
