i have an idea of what could be wrong with it but i want to ask for some opinions, my car is **** on earth to get into gear and it acts like this through all gears, i already had a problem with having to put my car into first gear so that the reverse would not grind, now that doesnt even work. when i put the car in gear there is a clicking sound and the car shakes, but there is no difference in the performance of the tranny when it is in gear. i plan to take the car to aamco tomorrow to find out what the problem is, and see if dusty is up to the challenge. would like to get a firm grip on what may be wrong

That sounds more like a clutch or Pressure Plate problem than a tranny problem. Clutch problems are not at all uncommon on these cars.

FWIW, reverse is unsynchronized, so it is normal to put it into a forward gear before putting it in reverse. That's not indicative of a problem.

I'm not sure aamco is a good bet for diagnosis on these cars, but do what you must.

It would be better if you posted this in the Gen 2 problem Forum. More people would see it and might be able to help you out.

Good luck getting an appointment with Dusty. He's busier than a one armed paper hanger these days.

sounds like when my clutch went out in the old 95... got progressively harder and harder to get into reverse, and then in a very short period of time got harder and harder to get into forward gears.

   well my car is at aamco for at least a week but the people there are real helpful their going to put my new exhaust on for free since they already have the old one off. the clutch is gone, along with the bearings, motor and transmission mounts, and the synchro rings, man i love this car, whats nice is that the guy actually knows about the SHO and has worked with them before

So the first emoticom will be you when you get the bill; and the third emoticom will be you when you get back behind the wheel. Let us know how it turns out.

UPDATE!!!
so i got my car back last friday after spending a lot of *&^%$#@ money on it, and after i drove it i totallly forgot that i spent money at all. everything was replaced as stated above and they put my exhaust on for free. so the guy gives me the keys i get in and turn her on. man what a difference that new exhaust makes! sounded beautiful! because of the new clutch and all the work i had to kind of relearn what it feels like to drive a correct MTX. i start to back out and what do i do? i rev the sumbitch up real high and the guy is looking at me like ive lost my mind. so once i back her up i go to put my old exhaust in the car to take home because Tom says you should never leave behind old parts, take her down the street and get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic! on monday i was able to unleash the beast and i sure was happy. but no sooner is the car working great wednesday rolls around i get in the car for work and she wont turn on!! i knew it wasnt the battery but wishful thinking has me taking my parents beat up 92 taurus with a flat down to the autoshack to check the battery, it wasnt the battery so it must be the starter right? i look in my chilton's manula to see how to take it it out and the first line says check all connections to the starter first, but i know what im doing so i go dtraght for the starter. got the bottom bolt off and spent the rest of the day missing work trying to get the top one off. never got it off because it is a bastich and wont come off. so i start to play with the solenoid and starter cables and the endes broke off. i go back to the shack and get a better gauge starter cable and a replacement clip for the solenoid cable hook it all up and the car starts right back up. if i would have listened to the first couple of lines i would have saved myself many cuts and a day at work  :bonk: :slap:

I had the same problem after I got my car back after a tranny/clutch change. The car worked for a day or two then problems starting, instrumentation lights coming on or reseting. After looking around I found that the Goodyear mechanic who worked on my car didn't tighten the pos connection to my starter and it was loose as ****. I could have had more problems if I lost the bolt. I fixed the loose bolt and now all is good. Now I'm more cautious and a little better educated on working on my SHO....Thanks Tom & the guys :hail: . We all have to learn from our mistakes in order to enjoy the fun of owning a SHO.
