Hello all. I kinda have a question that I have been wondering about for a while, and hopefully the answer will be in my favor.

basicly this deals with the belt systems.

OK, I figure that ford used a single belt setup on the automatic SHO's because of the fact that the tranny was longer then the 5 speed. and the 5 speed used two belts because it could, lol.

Ok here is my question, how much room did ford have to make up for them to use the single belt setup? like a 1/2 inch, inch, 2 inches? any help woudl be greatly appreciated.

anyone able to help me out?????

Heres the reason I asked.

I want to put a 3.2L into my Ford tempo. the 3.0L has already been droped in, however the frame rail had to be notched, and the motor/tranny had to be shifted to the drivers side between 1-2 inch's. so if the belt system makes up for the 1-2 inchs, I would be able to retain at least one stock axle and two of four stock mounts.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

at this very moment it has the vulcan. in the next couple months its going to have a 3.2L in it.

Someone has done the 3.0 SHO swap, but he had move the motor towards the drivers side, which in turn he had to notch the frame rail.

what I am hoping is the the 3.2L with the single belt setup will have enough room on the pass. side that I won't have to move the motor over.

Thats why I am asking how much room had to be made up for.

I'm not sure the diff in lenght from the the Vulcan to the SHO. However you may have a problem with the width?!? Also, what trans are you going to run? I hope not the stock (ATX?) because the Vulcan use to tear them to pieces and I can't imagine how fast the 3.2L SHO engine will grenade it!

As you can tell the witdh isn't a big concern. I will have to run a pusher fan instead of a pull, witch is no big deal.

as for the length between teh vulcan and the sho, thats not what I was asking. I am asking if there is length difference between teh 3.0 SHO and the 3.2 SHO because of the belt setup, since I know the blocks are bascily the same.

I am already running a SHO mtx-4 (the v6 tempo also uses a mtx-4 with some difference's.

I am not asking if it can be done, or how to do it or any help along those lines. I just wanted to know if using teh 3.2L belt setup would make my life just a lil bit more simple.

No real difference in length. If there is any, it would be very small.
