I am looking into buying some new drags(no daily driving only the track) for my front set of tires on my 91 & running them on slicers... any problem? Will they fit w/out a hitch? If not what size wheel could work? t0bird sc or something?

Thanks,
Adam

There would probably be to much buldging with a tire that width. Slicers are only 6" in width. You would want to find a rim that is probably 7" in width maybe more. I have a set of niche spikes. They are 17x7 and I put on a set of 245/45/17 on them and on those there was some buldging. Aren't Cobra R rims 7.5" in width? Those would probably work. Except for the fact that they are 17" in diameter.

so the tires would fit. Did the tires fit well enough that you would recommend it to others or did the not fit to good. I would like to know because i want bigger tires and if i can get those i just might.

sunny San Juan Bautista,
It's just not a good match. A lot of the performance comes from the actually wheel width. For instance, a 7.5" wide rim is a *really* nice match for a 205 tire. 225 is still alright but not as good, 235 is OK and 245 is pushing it. A better match for a 225 is an 8.5" wide and 235 would still be VERY nice. With our SHOs we have a limited amount of space so most people just go with 7-7.5" rims with 235 and sometimes 245 tires as a compromise.

The 6 inches of the slicers is grandma width. 6 inches makes for a performance match on a 185 tire. For the SHO, a 225/55-16 is a good tire for the slicers. It's still a grandma rim, but it's cost effective. Any bigger tire is just going to be crap on those rims. If you want to upgrade the performance after that, it only makes sense to do it right and get a 7 or 7.5" wide rim and take your picks of 225 (for 16" rims) or 235,245 (for 17" rims).

Oops, sorry. You were talking about drag racing and I was talking about handling. I know nothing about drag racing. I'll shut up now.

I've got my nice 18x8 team dynamics for the handling & day to day driving, but thing is I want to pick up a set of drags to lay down some serious traction when I go to the track.... only damn sizes I can find cheap are these 245/50's Thanks to all that have responded and any more info would be good too.

Put some Hoosier Quick Time Pro's on your slicers. They make a 26x9.5x16 that'll fit fine. Tread section width is only about 8", the sidewalls are flimsy enough and set up in a way that they'll fit on a fairly skinny rim.
