Hey All..been off the forum for some time but my SHO has been behaving extremely well..been lurking but no need to ask for assistance from this well informed knowledgeable forum...so my lease is about up on my 2015..ingot silver low gloss non flower wheeled max optioned non-PP SHO...problem is that there is no inventory in my area....WI...plenty in the Minneapolis MN area though...a Burgundy Velvet max optioned non-PP SHO caught my eye...my concern is the this vehicle's window sticker indicates it was built back in late November of 2017...so it has been sitting up northern Minnesota for 5mos or so through the dead of winter without being driven much...what are the potential issues...if any?

Battery and brakes mostly, tires and fuel somewhat. Certainly, if you do buy it, take it easy the first few hundred miles of driving. I Would personally change all fluids right away, but it sounds extreme when i replay the idea in my head LOL. So, skip that.

If I recall correctly, my 2013 was manufactured in like March of 2012. Yeah, really REALLY early. They pushed the 2013's out way early that year.

I leased it from the dealer, with about 20 miles on it, in November of 2012. While this was over the summer and fall on Long Island, it was around 8 months. Never had any issue with it. With miles that low, and everything Ford does when they put it together, I don't think there's much that can go wrong.

My F250 Superduty is a model 2001. Built in November of 2000. I got it from the dealer in June 2002 with less than 30 miles on it. Again, no issues.

Yeah...interesting u mention battery because the battery on my 2015 died within 9mos or so of me taking delivery and it sat on the frigid WI Stealership lot from Feb thru May before I took delivery. I may buy this one out at lease end so I was gonna do an Amsoil fully synthetic Signature Series oil change asap whatever vehicle I end up getting as I doubt the factory uses high quality full synthetic oil...what is the oil filter of choice these days...I have been sticking to the stock Motorcraft during my watch on this SHO.

Stock is still the best oil filter. If you are going over 6 months/5K for OCIs, you will need a sturdy extended life filter such as from Amsoil, Purolator (BOSS), etc. OR simply change the filter every 6 months/5K miles and top off the oil as needed.

Cars can sit a long time on a dealer's lot prior to being sold. 5 months wouldn't concern me mechanically. Some of our cars sit out the winter about that long, only being started once or twice. Battery? I suppose that could be an issue, but easily tested, checked replaced.

November build is early for a 2018. I ordered mine in September, and didn't get it until towards the end of December. When my order was placed, it was too late for a '17 and '18s were being built yet.

Matt - I dig the blue metallic SHO....it is on the want list too..gotta have the optional low gloss wheels..adds to the sleeper look...is it a SEL....or is it a SHO...from a distance they don't know until you gag it and leave a cloud of dust...nice ride.

My 2015 was on the dealer lot for over 14 months. Absolutely no issues @9500 miles so far. I even waited to change the oil at 5k. Runs great and is getting faster as it breaks in. The dealer replaced the battery before I bought it.

Well I am committed now because my local Ford dealership dealer traded for her and she was delivered here in WI today...interestingly enough an exact clone of this SHO was just factory delivered to a different Ford Dealership in Rochester MN with a build date of 04/21...not worried about it..u get what u get....my 2015 SHO has been an excellent car ignoring the fuel pump recall and crappy michelin primacy tires..thanks all for your input...will post a picture of her when i take delivery next week. Psyched and looking forward to it..

Tire Dry Rot would be my only concern. If it sat in the same spot for months I would have the tires inspected.

I leased my 2014 in November 2013. I bought mine off lease last year - my credit union had a smokin deal on interest rates and my car has very low miles, quite a few mods, been babied regarding constant oil changes, maintenance, washes, waxing, etc. And personally, I love the silver metallic - looks so sharp and clean and with the contrast of the dark wheels, tinted windows - just love it. I had a $1,000 best option detail job possible done to it recently and the silver metallic just pops like crazy! Good luck with your decision!

I bought a new 2017 SHO today! It's a non performance, but has the upscale wheels and the 401A with lane assist and the other stuff that comes with it. 36,250 out the door, and sticker was 46k.QUESTION. The owners manual says use 87 octane, but also suggests 93 especially in hot weather. It makes no reference to the Ecoboost or SHO model fuel. Which should I use? Just doing normal driving.

Check top tier fuel thread. Or the rated h.p. specs on Ford's website for the car.

I went and talked to the service department manager and he said unless you are racing, or towing, regular unleaded is just fine.

Yeah, may not be the best reference.
Then can you provide a better reference? Why would the owners manual not insist on 93 octane? It says use 87 octane and less towing or in very hot weather then use 93. I am certainly not trying to be disrespectful. But I have never had a car with so much mystery on which fuel to use.

Many people run their ecoboosts on 87 octane fuel and not necessarily top tier either. If you use light to moderate throttle, and do not lug the engine, and are not often stuck in conditions that cause multiple load changes, you should be fine. Just make sure to use a known good 87 fuel. Fact is, giving forced induction engines a bit of headroom with higher octane is a good idea simply because of the extra headroom that octane provides from the dreaded knock event, which would be quite survivable in a naturally aspirated engine, but not in a forced induction engine. Costwise, it may not immediately make sense, because stepping up from 87 to say 89 (edited to correct from 87 LOL) nowadays is a pricey proposition at the pump. But put in the context of an engine that provides a long service life, it does.

Comes down to safety margins. I like having more than less.

Thank you very much for the explanation. Did you mean stepping up from 87 to 89 perhaps in your last post? I am really only using this as a regular family sedan. I am not driving the car aggressively, just occasionally giving it some gas to fly onto an interstate. So far I am in love with this car.
