I have a non sony 7 speaker system. 2016 SHO. What is the best speakers to use as upgrades for the doors? Also read where some were adding 6x9's to rear deck. Is this done with an amp or without?

In your audio settings do you have surround sound?

Before upgrading speakers I would first work on sealing the doors install dynamat behind the speakers and on the door get some strong sheets of plastic or 1/8" diamond plate aluminum or 1/8" steel to cover any big holes.

I recently saw Lincoln uses sealed speakers in their harmon kardon speakers those should be a really good upgrade but I have not actually heard the system yet.

Also a audio control dm-810 will have to be installed past the factory amplifier in the trunk
I wish others that have actually done this would comment but this is where I'd start.
Look at these https://www.crutchfield.com/g_400/All-Car-Speakers.html?tp=105&pg=1#&avf=Y&nvpair=FFDesign|[rank7]Component System&nvpair=FFMax_RMS_Power|[rank3]Over 75
I would look for any of these on eBay and not worry about having the cross over be better wiring the DSP directly to each speaker for full power and clean sound.

the Lincoln Revel systems are outstanding. One top stereo mag named the MKX Revel system the 2nd best audio system in ANY vehicle at any price! The drivers are custom-designed and custom-located for the vehicle, so not going to be able to just find them on the shelf at any Harman Kardon, Mark Levinson or Revel dealer...

But the basic shape should work in the doors and pillar tweets w/ minor modifications.

I agree with the previous responses, Lincoln Revel systems are really cool, that's can be a very good choice! I also like Pioneer speakers, I have these ones in my car for several years and they have nice quality too ;)

71tdHOKzR1L SL1500 768x448

And they weren't very expensive which made me even more happy about their quality :D Alpine and Kenwood models are good too as I know from some of my friends, I also recommend you to look through these examples on cozzy.org for more ideas, it seems that some models in this list are nice too :)

Good point. Sealing with aluminum can help but I have great results with just MLV(and of course CCF and dampener)

The Revel system is much nicer than the base Taurus system but those speakers were designed to work as part of the Revel system, they may sound great on the SHO but unless you can get them cheap I wouldn't bother.

The audio control DSPs are overrated. They typically make quality products and I'd recommend the lci2 over the cheap passive LOCs but they are late to the game with DSPs. If going that route the Helix is a great DSP(what I am using). Rockford Fosgate also has the DSR1 coming out at some point(it's been delayed a bunch) that will have system integration and a DSP, I bet it will be mediocre like the 360.3 but at a great price.

LMAO I think it may be time to start a GEN4-Stereo category, the folks out here have been helping me hash out how to upgrade my 2012 system, it has proven to be a learning/frustrating experience. I am not sure how different your system is but they don't make it easy, Anyway good luck make sure you keep us posted on what you do and how it works.
