I need some advice/help from you all. Last night I was cruising around and my thermostat was jumping to 100% running HOT in the middle of my driving. Now it was a cool night out (70*) so I did the obligatory blast of heat and it dropped the needle down l, but a little while later while heading home my heat kicked off and the needle sky rocketed again.

I pulled into my driveway, idled the car for a few minutes. Nothing. I kicked up the A/C and idled for a few minutes. Still running fine, not hot at all.

Anyone else have this experience or have any advice in the matter. I’m not a handy person, but I understand a lot. Thank for any help you all can provide. Cheers.

Check the radiator fans. Are they both on without climate control on? Or only one (pass side) is on, driver side off with climate control off? Only passenger side should be on till A/C functions kick in, in stock applications at least.

Coolant level looks good? Coolant is free of contamination/debris? Any coolant smell/leaks?

Maybe you simply have an air bubble that needs to be resolved. If the coolant looks low, but clean (and oil looks clean), add OEM coolant (Motorcraft Orange I think) to the top of the COLD FILL range and try again. Unlikely scenario but worth a shot.

Thermostat could be stuck but they are designed to fail in the OPEN position, so this is an unlikely scenario as well.

Any pest issues in your area? Some cases of chewed up wiring have been popping up. They will chew on the wires for the Cylinder Head Temperature sensor, causing erroneous readings. An IR temperature gun can be handy for measuring actual temp independent of the sensor. Aim at the degas bottle/coolant reservoir for approximate temps. Here is how to get to the sensor:
  1. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe and the ACL . For additional information, refer to Section 303-12 .
  1. Position the ACL -to-RH turbocharger intake tube aside. For additional information, refer to Section 303-12 .
  1. Remove the ground wire-to-engine front cover bolt.
  1. Disconnect the Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) sensor electrical connector.
  1. Remove and discard the CHT sensor.
    • To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Do not reuse the CHT sensor. Install a new sensor.

Maybe the temp sensor is getting flaky. Is there any other sign of overheating other than the temp gauge?

My 2012 non pp is doing the exact same thing, it started when i call myself recharging my AC. I thought my issue was due to me overcharging my AC. My fan's started spinning at the highest level as I was charging the system. now it intermittently runs hot (Usually when i'm sitting at a drive thru, or every once in a while it runs hot at a light). But i can sit in my drive way and it wont run hot at all. So i decided to discharge some of the R134 out and my fans spins back at the normal pace. but it still intermittently run hot. and my ac still doesn't get ICE cold. and lastly when i turn the heat on to 90 degrees, its as cold as 60 degrees. This is driving me crazy. Please HELP!

So, I had a major coolant leak that was hidden because of the belly pan on the bottom of the car. The car is being looked at by a Ford certified dealership for more work and diagnostic work. More to come if you care to hear it.

Sorry to hear. Strange though there were no associated smells. Sounds like a water pump failure to me, which is a major repair job. def keep us in the loop!
