Hi All,

So it had been awhile since i had taken the SHO out due to needing new brakes. Probably 20 days without driving, and 20 more days before that. Had 87 oct fuel in it. after driving without issue i decided to clean out the cobwebs and heavily accelerate. From 0 to 60 ok, but after that it was weird, like power dropping for a second and then kicking in. Is it just old gas or is it tranny issues or something else? i dont know much about cars so i apologize if not explaining correctly.

What year is your SHO? Are you tuned? Does it do it repeatedly or did it just happen this one time?

2011 PP. I have noticed issue in past but it is rare that i accelerate like that.
Its like engine was fighting to keep up with itself.

Also check engine light flashed but went away after a bit after letting off gas, like 25 seconds or so

Well a flashing CEL typically indicates a misfire which isn't great. I'd stick with premium gas but would get it looked at. Could be a bad plug which is relatively simple or an injector...or a bunch of other things :) If cars aren't your thing then I would just take it in to a reliable mechanic..

Even tho the light is off will a code be stored? I have been looking at other posts and it seems there are a lot of maintenance things that can be done and checked. I am a learner, but a slow one lol. Just did front brakes last night (error was from b4) and plan to do rear brakes sunday. I had never ever jacked up a car b4 so i am gaining confidence. Not much extra $$$ right now so going to have to learn as i go.

So completely stock i think i need .34 gap plugs and i should get maf spray to clean map sensor. I am picking up on the lingo lol.

Any other things i should look for while i am at it? Love the way the car drives but i suspect there is power still at stock level i dont have...and no point getting excited to buy tunes with tax refund if basic stuff isnt right.

If the check engine light has come on while driving, there should always be a stored code. Almost all of the parts stores will read codes for free, so a good place to start is to have one of them read the codes and tell you what there is.

Plugs are needed at the very least. Use motorcraft sp534 as replacement. Hopefully not a stuck injector. Plugs are straightforward, injectors are involved but doable.

Carbon buildup on the intake valves is a known problem with GDI technology, though Ford has been the best at handling it. Something to keep in mind.
