sure

the esses at VIR are truly epic. some of the best corners of paved racing surface in the US.

hopefully we will have the full course.

VIR is not just "another track". It's wicked fast. 153 mph in the Z06 on the back, 147 getting into T1, 131 mph entering the esses. About 1.45 G in hogpen on Hoosier A6's :naughty:

**** yeah, I'd vote full course as well so I can take full advantage of my GTS.

I also believe VIR was one of the top 10 tracks in Car and Drivers eyes, so definitly not just another track.

See my #38 post. This does not excite me.

But then, high-speed runs aren't my bag anyway, especially when I have to cook my brakes at the end of the straight (like at Memphis).

If I had a track-only car, I'm sure I would think differently. But, I don't. And I won't, my car for the track also takes me to/from home.

The 2 hard brake zones (backstraight and front straight) have plenty of cooling time between them, and really other than that, you hardly use the brakes. You can always cap your speed on the straights, back off early, etc. The backstraight is nice because it's not a typical straight line braking zone, you crest a hill, car is light, then the tracks swings to the left, so it's a bit of trail braking from high speed, very fun!

It's one of the old school tracks where they did a great job letting the lay of the land build the track's character, you feel like you are actually going somewhere. Not all these new Alan Wilson type tracks where all you do is drag race, park it, drag race, park it, etc

The track, although a fun attraction, is not the main - or only - reason us SHO guys gather every year...

I wasn't saying it's the only thing, I was simply responding to comments that were knocking VIR itself. It's simply one of the many great sites the Triangle area has to offer. You are right in stating the main reason is the people, they are what make this meet special. :salute:

Wow.

Anyway- VIR is a bit away from the Raleigh/Durham area so that may dissuade some people who don't want to drive their cars to the track, on the track, and back to the hotel but maybe not.

I've started to contact a couple of groups but haven't found anything really promising as far as events for July. Everything is literally June or August. Lame.

Sam and James-- get a room.

And...humor helps but just because he got lucky on this last deployment doesn't mean Afghanistan's going to be the same way.

VIR is only about 60mins from Durham, right up 501 to Roxboro and turn left.

Thats good to know DJ, but then again, you have the folks who may worry about breaking their rides and not being to get 'em home. I for one would probably not take my blown Gen 3 to the track, but would take the Gen 4. I don't know though. We'll see. ;)

Since when is an hour or hour and a half a long way to go for a track? Does everyone live next door to a road course or something? The closest track to me is Hallett, and it is nearly two hours away. IMO, that is close. A track like VIR, if it was within 5 hours of me, I would count myself privileged. After driving 18hours to get to NC, worrying about a 90 minute haul to one of the best tracks in the country is akin to complaining about having to walk down a long hallway to your bedroom, where half of the girls from the VS catalog are waiting for you.

Honestly, I'm a complete noob and don't know how far away the tracks usually are, which is why I asked. I don't quite live next door to VIR, but it is within 5 hours :sun:

I'm looking forward to it, long or short course, mostly cuz I havn't read anything negative about it, and Jim's been talking about it for years. I like the parking lot scene and friends etc., but the track quality is pretty important to me, don't care if it's 3 hours away.
I'm not in need of slowing from over 100 three times a lap, but I understand Vipers/Vettes/CTSV's liking it. Guess I'll spend more time watching the mirror than usual and bleeding and pad changing.

I'm already planning the trip/caravan meet ups for it.

It was right at 100 miles from Vallejo to Thunder Hill, so 60 miles is a piece of cake. And I did the trip back with no functioning alternator. Made all but the last 100 yards... Thanks to Mark I made it back to Texas. And VIR iwill be an absolute hoot. I will definitely have different tires next year. I think my SPTs have gotten a bit hard. I had no real grip at Waterford Hills this year.

We will need to do a better job of teching and the like at VIR, though.
