The track determining your attendance is lame

I beg to differ. VIR offers a wide range of facilities, from skid pads to 4 different courses(offering distances from 1.1-3.7 miles). On top of that, the setting offers a great combination of open grass pastures, well laid out pit areas and tree-shaded seating/picnic areas. Is it Road America or Watkins Glen? No, but it will offer a great setting for the SHO convention! :salute:

The track, although a fun attraction, is not the main - or only - reason us SHO guys gather every year...

Like Liberty mentioned, the track is not the only attraction. It is typically the highlight of the week. However, I am more excited to see the people, hang out, talk, and generally just catch up. The track day itself is a big reason for some to attend, but the track location is generally not.

I agree with Steve there! The track is just a highlight as the real fun is in the parking lot and hanging out with everyone and well drinking heavily, watch out for the Canadians though....

sure

the esses at VIR are truly epic. some of the best corners of paved racing surface in the US.

hopefully we will have the full course.

VIR is not just "another track". It's wicked fast. 153 mph in the Z06 on the back, 147 getting into T1, 131 mph entering the esses. About 1.45 G in hogpen on Hoosier A6's :naughty:

Still to far away.... :(

No such thing.

With Conventions starting on Monday, even if you couldn't leave until Saturday morning, 2,000 miles away is very doable.

It was 2,400 from my house to Seattle in '08. I left Thursday evening to get to Madison, where I met up with a bunch of folks. Two and a half easy days of Caravan driving after that, we were in Seattle.

If I had to, I could have left myself on Saturday early morning, and been at the hotel Sunday evening. 1300 miles on Saturday, 1100 Sunday......BTDT driving to Phoenix to see my dad.

If VIR is true, I am more likely to go next year. As much as I enjoy the parking lot festivities, the track matters to me.

And it's good to know that if I have car issues (hard to say that when the '90 has been the most reliable car ever), I have Paul not too far away to work his magic and get me back home to good 'ol Wisconsin. :)

I hope it's a shorter course......

I have no use for loooooong straights. To me, they are just brake killers. If I want to go fast, I'll do it somewhere that's safe, like the Interstate.

Waterford Hills may be crowding out Mid-Ohio as my all-time favorite track. Nice and technical, and the longest straight took me right to the 7K redline in 3rd gear, which was perfect.

See my #38 post. This does not excite me.

But then, high-speed runs aren't my bag anyway, especially when I have to cook my brakes at the end of the straight (like at Memphis).

If I had a track-only car, I'm sure I would think differently. But, I don't. And I won't, my car for the track also takes me to/from home.

Not exactly. When using your vacation time once a year you want to balance out what you really want to do. I have no problem getting together for SHO events, but VIR is a track I have always wanted to run on, so it would get priority. It is alot of time and money to spend, so if I am not 100% interested there is no point for me to want to go. :munch:
