So I was rear ended on Wednesday and there is extensive damage to the SHO. I expect it to be claimed as a total loss. Waiting for repair estimate. She was at fault, cited, and her INS company has claimed responsibility.

Not really familiar with this. Anyone have any advice or actions steps that I should be aware of?

She has USAA and I have State Farm.

Oh man, so sorry to hear, hope you are OK!!! It takes quite a bit to damage a Gen 4 SHO extensively. Sounds like you both have good insurance companies, and should get a good settlement out of it. Definitely check out replacement value, rather than just market value at time of "total loss".

If things go as you expect, I have a 2014 Ruby Red SHO with only 1500 miles I'm looking to sell. You can see some pics under the thread Second Late Model SHO. If you're looking to go another direction, no big deal. I had a Pearl White 2010 myself that was totaled. Best thing you can do is make sure that wherever you took it (in my case the dealer) they write EVERYTHING! They can help make sure it's totaled if you don't want to wait for it to be fixed and then have a car that is devalued via CARFAX.

That sucks. USAA is a good company, but still a INS company.
You wont really know until they come back with an estimate.
I would avoid using a "preferred shop" they are in the business of fixing cars, not totaling them.

I would imagine with the rear suspension trashed its a goner.

Did you get injured at all? I know the Taurus can take a pretty hard hit from the rear before passengers sustain injuries.

I just went through this with my Focus ST. My advice is to make sure the body shop is an excellent one, that they only repair with factory parts, and that they aren't affiliated with USAA. Many of the "preferred shops" are preferred because they will cut corners to save the insurance companies money. Since you are not at fault you can demand they repair with factory parts if it isn't totaled. Since the USAA has already accepted liability you shouldn't have any issues getting a claim check or the repairs done. Also, if they do repair it you can apply for a diminished value claim for the difference in price between a clean car and a repaired car.

Good info. Thanks y'all. USAA will be paying for it, as they claimed responsibility. But I am filing through my ins, STATE FARM. The SF "certified shop" didn't even have a lift. I actually was arguing with the owner, to have my car released. He said he looked at the car, while on blocks. I moved it to another shop, at SF expense, that has the great reviews and the appropriate tooling to tell me what a true estimate will be, and if there is frame damage, as thats what i expect based on my injury.

Anyone have information on frame and frame damages/specs? The new shop has the machine to test. And I will definitely apply for a diminish value claim. Ive never heard of it, but will inquire. Also, as far as parts go, all INS companies will always look for used parts, from what I have been told. Using new OEM parts is not cost effective. If they cant be located or replaced, then they go used. Even the dealer looks for used parts, again, from what I have been told, depending on what part is.

Example, my truck lid and deck will be used.

Also i do need PT...6 weeks, 3 times a week, minimum.

That's serious PT time. If you need more, will the insurance continue to cover it?

I hope you are feeling better soon as well! As far as insurance companies requiring used parts that's correct. That being said I f the fitment isn't correct then the insurance company will have to pay for new parts. I myself am very particular and would only accept new parts when my focus was in the shop but if it isn't an issue for you personally I wouldn't worry about it.

The preferred shop problem I was talking about , bad news no matter what company.
