I am looking to an upgrade for my 2010 Ford Taurus SHO none PP. I just found out that the 2010 rotors are a bit smaller than 2011 and up. Would it be better to upgrade calipers and rotors or can I upgrade to a newer year or do I just have to stay with the 2010 size rotors and go with EBC or power stop? Any input is appreciated.

Upgrade calipers and rotors to the 2013+. They are 13.9" in the front and 13.6" in the rear vs the 12.8 front, 13.0 rear 2011-12 sho. All you need is the new callipers, pads and rotors. These part descriptions usually denote "heavy duty brakes". I have a 2010 and they bolt right up. Stay away from ceramic pads(use semi metalics) if you require maximum stopping power or are going to be ******* them. Also, I'm not a fan of power stops rotors or pads. Their "hi carbon steel" isn't as high as say stoptechs, raybestos or motor craft OEM. Some guys love em, some hate em.

Also, I just ordered my rear 2013+ calipers. (Powerstop branded). Very good price for the pair.

Did you also change the backing plates due to the larger rotor diameter or did you just remove them?

I changed my non-PP 2010 SHO to 2013+ PP brakes. Like noted, you will need calipers, rotors, and pads. What was omitted is you will also need new caliper mounting brackets and flexible hoses. I removed the dust cover and it's no longer installed. Some people have bent them or cut off the lip. Here's a "How To" that describes the process and all the part numbers required for the swap.

I just ordered brake upgrade kit powerstop from carid.com and they were too small both calipers and rotors. They were 12.8 inch and the 2015 non PP SHO is 13.9 they said they would fit. F##cking liars. Then the guy I talked to seemed like a ******* because I asked if he had the right ones and he said yes. I said what size are they he said 325.12 mm. I said what size are they in inches he said all it says is mm. WTF! I

325.12mm is exactly 12.8 inch. You can find do the online conversion at this website: https://www.unitconverters.net/length/mm-to-inches.htm

What everyone has said about the 10-12 brakes is true, they replaced pads an rotors on my car when I bought it six thousand miles ago for the most part they still work unless you start doing spirited driving then they get a little scary. I have some time before replacement but I need to start looking at brakes a lot sooner then I expected.

- As stated in other threads the whole break upgrade thing is very confusing, in fact I am not even sure Ford knows what kind of breaks they put on the SHO PP

- I have boiled it down to the 13+ upgrade which is preferred or I also saw the (Power Stop® - 1-Click Z23 Evolution Sport Drilled and Slotted Brake Kit with Calipers) on carid.com but after
they were too small both calipers and rotors.

they dont seem like a very good deal, if you go to the PowerStop web site they don't show a calipers for 13+ so my guess someone is trying to sale you fancy painted 10-12 for the 13+ but that is just a guess.
- So what are the part numbers for the 13+ PP calipers, the rotors and pads are easy there all the same but my understanding is the PP calipers are different.

Also, I just ordered my rear 2013+ calipers. (Powerstop branded). Very good price for the pair.
For some reason I thought you did this already, I saw your post in the other thread for the fronts, correct me if I am wrong but you had a hard time finding the right calipers, exactly what did you order, Heavy Duty, or Police, etc. There is no part listed as Performance Package.
-Same with the Master Cylinder, there is no PP listed and I thought they where different.
I know I put a lot in this post and its all over the place but I'm not sure Ford knows about the Performance Package SHO. Have a great day all

Correct. I did the fronts last year. The performance from the fronts alone were great. They are indeed designated as "heavy duty brake" package. The rears were even more scarce than the fronts. I was able to find them in the auto parts stores this year as well as on Rock Auto. The PP brakes for 13+ are the same size calipers and rotors and master cylinder/ booster as the non pp 13+, just have the red high temp silicon piston seals and semi metallic pads for the pp. Just FYI, The 13+ calipers/ rotors work perfectly with the 10-12 booster. Also, Rock Auto accepted my 10-12 cores for the 13+ calipers I received.

Try to avoid the powerstop calipers. I don't trust thier QC after a internal piston seal for 1 of my rear calipers was missing and spewing fluid past the outer dust seal. Ive never trusted their metallurgical formulations for their rotors either. Now their calipers have been added to that list.

The PP caliper piston is also drilled for better cooling. Is the non-PP the same?

I really have to apologize this topic has really been beaten to death, I think there is a new brake thread every month. But I cant find the answers to my questions which is mostly part numbers.

I don't know, but that is what I believe, but I don't see a PP part number on anything, that is what confuses me.

Correct. I did the fronts last year
Thanks for the reply but when you have a minute I have a few questions.
- So what part number did you use and how did you eventually find the right calipers, did you just keep ordering them until you finally got the PP ones.
- I know you painted them, how did that hold up and did you consider having them powder coated, can you brake them down far enough to powder coat.
Try to avoid the powerstop calipers
- You just confused me, Didn't you just order Powerstop rear calipers, is there any difference between the PP an NON PP rear calipers.
Just FYI, The 13+ calipers/ rotors work perfectly with the 10-12 booster
- I thought the 13+ Master cylinder/Booster was considered an upgrade over the 10-12 Master/Booster. An since once again I can only find one listed, is there a difference between the PP an NON PP Master/Booster.

This whole brake thing really is insane, the 10-12 brakes are so bad they should be recalled, after just a few times on the brakes hard they are shuddering an making noise.

I posted a link earlier that lists all the part numbers from Rock Auto.
Calipers: BRCF208/BRCF209
Caliper Brackets: BRBC28/BRBC29

I powder coated my calipers when I upgraded. You simply remove the red dust cover from the pistons, remove the pistons, and then remove the seals. Once that's done you remove all the stuff on the outside and they're ready to powder coat (assuming your place will do the cleaning prep before powder). Mine look brand new just like when I got them back. Admittedly, my car is a pretty fair weather car and is driven 95% of the time in nice clear weather on clean roads (so I would expect them to look like new).

The 13+ is an upgrade over the 10-12. However, you don't NEED to replace the 10-12 MC/Booster in order to upgrade the calipers/pads and notice a HUGE difference. I went a summer with 2010 MC/Booster and 13+ brakes and noticed much better brakes (installed 13+ MC/Booster that winter). Like you said, an aggressive stop or two on the 2010 brakes and they warped. I've been on many spirited drives and several AutoX events on the 13+ brakes and no issues at all.

Follow the parts listed on the link below and you will be happy. It tells you exactly what you need and how to do it.

- I got you SilverSHo I have spent many hours reading your post, you are a big help to all of us, and I have looked up those part numbers before. What confuses me or maybe I just don't understand the differences.
-Is there a difference between the SHO Performance Package (Calipers, rotors, Master Cylinder, etc) and the NON-PP parts. If there is a difference, (which it seems like there is) what are the part numbers for the PP parts. When I look up the part numbers you listed they seem to be standard SHO parts, and I can find nothing anywhere that designates any parts Performance Package items, That includes everything I have tried to find in relation to the brakes. As always Thank You too everyone who is helping me/us with this.

Gotcha. I cannot answer your question as I haven't looked into it that much. I can tell you that if you follow the link above, you won't be disappointed and will notice a dramatic improvement.

13+ SHO Calipers :
• PP - Same size as Non PP
• PP - has red high temp silicon seals
• PP - has drilled pistons
• Usually noted as "Heavy Duty brakes" for both pp and non pp.
•PP - usually denoted as "Sho Pkg" or something similar, in addition to the "Heavy duty brakes" designation.
• Same size and interchangeable : PP and Non PP.

13+ SHO Booster/ MC :
• Same P/N - PP and Non PP

13+ SHO pads :
• PP - Semi Metallic
• Non PP - ceramic
• Same size and interchangeable, PP and Non PP
• Usually denoted as "Sho Pkg" or something similar, in addition to the "heavy duty brakes" designation.

13+ SHO Rotors :
• Same PP and Non PP
•Usually denoted as the "heavy duty brakes"

"Standard duty" brake designations are for 13+taurus that are NOT the SHO.

The booster, master cylinder, calipers, pads and rotors are all new for the 13+ SHO vs the 10-12 SHO. These parts can all be retro fitted to the 10-12 models.

Rockauto.com 2013+ SHO Screen Shot :

•Non pp usually says "w/o version Pkg",

•PP is "sho Pkg 1"

•Non SHO is "standard duty"

AutoZone, O'Reilly's, etc use slightly different designations.

Always Use the "54xx" in the part number as your guide. If it has ”54xx" for the calipers, it is for the 13+ SHO. If it's a motorcraft part, then "brcf2xx” is the 13+ sho calipers. The br is BRake Caliper Front {BRCF} the 2 means its for heavy duty/sho. Then the other 2 numbers...I don't know. But they're different depending on the position of the caliper or if it's pp. BRCR would be brake caliper rear.

Motorcraft Rotors use a similar designation. BRake Rotor Front {BRRF} then a 2 for the heavy duty/sho. And then 2 more numbers. BRRR would be brake rotor rear.

All of this is confusing, but don't stop asking questions. The 2013+ sho brakes with semi metalic pad are to the brakes what a 3bar map and tune is for the powertrain.

so what is the best brake upgrade for 2010 non pp sho? 2013 non pp pads and rotors? i dont really wanna upgrade the master cylinder or calipers. raybestos has some performance rotors that look nice.

Change the rotors, calipers and pads to the 2013+ setup. Even if you just do the fronts for now. Don't need to change your Master cylinder. Night n day difference. Thank me later.

Save up a little bit longer to include calipers and get the 2013+ PP brake stuff from Rock Auto (rotors, pads, calipers, and longer brake lines). As mentioned, night and day difference (it's the route I took). Then later you can swap out the MC and booster to make them even better.
