Can anyone help me? I want to change out my rear speakers but how do I go about it? Keep in mind that I am using the same 5x7 size. I just need to know if this can be done by removing the grills and if so, then, how do you remove the grills? Or, do you have to remove the entire package tray to get to the speakers? I have a pair of Infinity 2ways that I want to put in place of the factory speakers. I then want to replace the driver side bass speaker with one of the factory rear speakers because my driver side bass is blown, and I assume that they are essentially the same speaker. Can anyone confirm this, that the rear speakers and the door bass speakers are the same?
shrug
Any info on this project would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

By the way, when i say "driver's side" what I meant to say was driver's side (door) bass speaker.

To get to the speakers, you'll have to unscrew teh 4 bolts which hold the back seat on. Then carefully bend the entire trim on the back (grills do not seperate) and take that out. This should give you access to teh rear speakers. To avoid dealing with the 4 micron length wire ford put back there, go to circuit city and get a wiring harness adapter, it will plug into the plug from the wire and will give you two ends to plug into your new speaker.

As for the front and rears being same or different, I dont know. www.v8sho.com has an article describing the sound systems.

Wow, sounds like a lot of trouble just to change a couple of speakers. So, the wiring harness plugs into the existing speaker connector? Thanks for your help, I have been searching for a shop/repair manual that would explain all this but, Autozone and Advance Auto Parts don't even carry a Haynes type manual that covers the SHO.
Bummer.
Thanks again, looks like I have myself a nice weekend project now. eek!

You really dont need a manual for this. If you are wiring up an amp, etc, then a manual would help to know which wires to splice, etc, etc. Yeah, the harness (it's more like a pair of plugs) plugs into the factory plug and gives you two wires at the end. I got mine from circuit city. I think metra made them, not 100% sure. If you thought the trunk was hard, wait until you try the front doors  frown

Well, I did it!!!!! Thanks a million to XL-Surua T for the information he submitted. The rear seat back came out very easy. The package tray trim panel was a little tricky, and you really want to be careful when removing it because it looks and feels like it could be easily broken. The old speakers were very easily removed of course, they are attached by four screws and some adhesive material. I had to drill two small holes in order for my replacement speakers to fit exactly even though they were the same 5x7 size as the originals, they didn't line up exactly as the originals, but it was no big deal. The door panels were not as difficult as I thought they would be, I got info on this procedure from www.v8sho.com, just followed instructions and was very careful as to not break anything. I replaced both front bass speakers with my original rear speakers, (remember the reason I was doing this in the first place was because my driver side bass speaker was blown). The fronts and rear premium speakers are different. Looks like the voice coil may be larger on the rear speaker than the front. All I know is that it sounds great! Now I have more bass coming from the front and back along with the crisp highs from the rear and front as well.
Thanks again, and if anyone needs any help doing this, I will be glad to help them out also!

By the way, the wiring harness was "Metra/Dashworks", got it at Circuit City for $7.99. Makes an installation a breeze! boink thumbs_u

Anytime, always here to help wink Yeah, those harnesses are awesome. I ended up cutting my rear wires and it took me an hour to rewire them because ford's wire was so short. Then a few months later, someone else at another forum mentioned that kit
