Hello all. So, last fall my 5th and reverse stopped working on my MTX SHO, kept driving it without those gears (yes, it was annoying), then later had what we had thought to be a more major failure, rendering the car undriveable. Some time passes and we discover a car nearly identical to mine nearby for dirt cheap. We dork around with it, get it running, and verify all the gears work. Pull the thing apart, keep what we want, scrap the rest. Some more time passes and we have a local transmission shop do a no questions transmission swap. After picking the car up it was clear that there was still a problem, more specifically the clutch never seemed to completely disengage when you depressed to pedal. For example, if you got the car going 40mph in fourth gear and pressed the pedal down, the engine speed would not go down and the car would drag as if the clutch was still engaged. Got the car home, thinking it was maybe a clutch cable. The car sat over winter, however I did go out and start it and move it around. After that we replaced the clutch cable, when we got the old one out, it didn't look to good, and we hoped we had fixed it. Sadly this was not the case. Now it is summer and we have some time on our hands to do a clutch, which is what seems to be the problem now. So, my question to you fine folks is, what clutch would you recommend I purchase? Trying to keep it around $200-$250, doesn't need to be anything special, just something that will last. The best choice right now seems to be a Zoom clutch from SummitRacing. Any input would be appreciated.

TL;DR: What clutch would you guys recommend for around $200-$250?

Im using a Stock style replacement (which is going to be what 90% of people will tell you to go with). Im a big fan of a Luk branded clutch. Ive had mine for a year or so now. I drive my car hard and its holding up just fine. No slip smooth engagement and when need to get moving quick it will grab hard enough to get the front wheels slipping.

Most everything on Rock Auto meets your price range and are good clutches also.

Where in Michigan are you? It sounds like the clutch disk was installed backwards.

Did you adjust the clutch after putting in the new cable? Did you verify that there is a bushing on top of the trans?

Clutch was adjusted, verified the gears in the quadrant worked, adjusted the pedal. Which bushing are you talking about?
