One of the OEM subwoofers in my system has developed an apparent worn voice coil and is no longer producing much output and occasionally gets really scratchy sounding. Does anyone know the ohms of these speakers and any possible replacements? I had long ago replaced the 6"x8" dual cone speakers above them with Pyle 6"x8" poly 2-way speakers.

Did they change the design of the subwoofer system from Gen 1 to Gen 2? I know on my car the subwoofer (mounted under the rear deck) is a 6.5" Round subwoofer.

I think they are 6 ohm drivers (I'll look it up when I go home). I have not seen 6x9 subs in a long time, you may want to think about 6x9 to 8" round adaptors that would let you use a larger selection of drivers.

That's a good idea. I have seen a great deal of selections in the 8" round sizes, but none in the 6"x9" size.

I did that in a '93 Fleetwood that had 6x9s in the back with very good results. Since you have changed you headunit, you probably have some unused line outs that could easily be hooked to a small aftermarked amp if the factory sub amp is not up to par for the subs that you want.

Shoot, the factory subwoofers were only marginal at best as they came from the factory. After looking at the "bunge cord" mounting of them under the rear deck, I thought that there was no way that they could be making a good acoustic seal at the deck. I mounted them with speaker screws and found a whole new level of bass from them. I have the bass on the head unit turned down to a -8 on a scale of -15 to +15 just to keep from overwhelming the mid and high ranges. There is more than enough power from the JBL amp to keep my 42-year old ears happy (and my wife not so happy).
