Hello, I am looking at a set of rims which is 17 x 7.5 with a 30mm offset. How do I tell if these will stick out on the car at all? Thanks in advance for the info!

The range I have heard for SHOs is 38-42 mm offset. I have a set of American Racing Estrella 95s in 17X7.5 They are 40 mm offset and fit perfectly over my 13" cobra brakes. Personally, I would not try 30mm offset unles you got to test them first, and then I bet they don't fit right.

Sorry to be the pessemist.

Well, they are online, and are a steal to buy, with sweet tires on it. What is the risk in getting them, not clearing the outside of the calipers? I will be doing the 96 upgrade before I put these on, as well as my koni/eibach setup. What measurement can I ask the guy to give me, to be sure it will clear? Also, could I get spacers to space these out at all?

INFO ANYONE? I am almost going to miss out on the rims, and wanted input. What will a 30mm offset do for the wheel? Not clear the calipers, or stick out a bit?! THanks in advance for info!

well, wont they just stick out 8mm farther than a stock one??! IF they will clear the calipers, I may buy them and try them out, and then sell the rims off if they don't fit as I like. The tires are worth what I can buy the rims AND tires for..

30mm offset will really screw up the steering. That puts the wheel centerline out past the steering axis. What that means is that you won't be able to steer the car properly, instead, it will steer itself. Just imagine, instant lane changes every time you hit a bump or pavement seperation, and you won't even have to turn the wheel!!!

thanks pj... and everyone who has posted. I'l see what they go for, and most likely I'l take the tires off, and sell the rims seperately, seems best to me. OR, if they happen to not look ridiculous and drive that way, I'l keep em for a while. Thanks to all! :thumb:

The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. The offset can be one of three types.

Zero Offset
The hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.

Positive
The hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars.

Negative
The hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheels centerline. "Deep dish" wheels are typically a negative offset.

If the offset of the wheel is not correct for the car, the handling can be adversely affected. When the width of the wheel changes, the offset also changes numerically. If the offset were to stay the same while you added width, the additional width would be split evenly between the inside and outside. For most cars, this won't work correctly.

This is a diagram of a common front wheel drive offset wheel.

Hope I could help.

My sig pic now shows the M3 rims on it.. They look great, I just had to do minor trimming on the rear quarter inner lips. I LOVE em! :D

Hey now, I'm unique, no one else has them, nor will they... wahwahwah! lol JK they are made by Detata and although BMW bolt pattern is way off from ours, these ones were drilled for the first time, with the 5x108 bolt pattern, so they are not redrills. The company was contacted before the wheels were drilled, to avoid having to get them redrilled. I love em, very happy with the stance and how they look! :D
