I want to upgrade tsat but not sure which to go with either lms 160 or Reische 170. Im leaning more to 160 since its usually hot year round in south texas. Which would be better for for a DD?

Good read here..

The 170 is a cold side thermostat which is a direct replacement in functionality as the stock tstat..

The 160 is a hot side thermostat which operates a bit differently... seems a lot of guys that monitored the 160 tstat vs 170 said the 160 has larger fluctuations in coolant temps..

I run the 170 as it's the only Tstat designed for our cars from a stock functionality stand point.

I'm in West Texas, myself, so I went with the 160. I haven't had it through a summer yet, but so far I'm happy. There's a significant difference in temps compared to factory, even after I've run it pretty hard. Not trying to contradict StealBlueSho. Just my 2 cents

No contradiction here, lots of guys run the 160 without any issues. I just chose to use the one that is closer to factory functionality. The 160 is sold by LMS and I believe BPD runs the 160 in his monster without issues.

This is correct info.

I have been running my 160 thermo now for several years, including in the craptastic winter months here in the lovely killing fields of CHI-Town, all w/o any issues.

Including during those colder months when old man Winter would hurl his sub zero temperatures.

This past Winter was the 1st time in my owning of my SHO since having purchased her new back in 2010, in which I removed her from DD duties (simply to save the mileage, unnecessary wear/tear etc.).

But yeah, never any issues with heat or anything like that FWIW.
