I had the tranny rebuilt 11,000 miles ago. Shifting from 1>2 is sometimes very sloppy/slow. Halfway through the shift it seems like it wants to go back into 1st, or doesn’t know where to shift. Other times it shifts perfectly. Once it’s in gear it runs like a champ. Happens hot or cold. No codes. California Car, 240,000 miles.

My tranny guy wants to replace the valve body, but he’s having a tough time finding a new or rebuilt.

After searching the threads here, it sounds like he’s on the right track.
Any ideas on where to locate one?

did you check codes to see what the pcm is complaining about?

when he rebuilt the tranny, did he replace the pressure modulating solenoid and the shift solenoids?

because if he didn't, that would be the first suspect.

Thanks Rubydist.
I ran the codes. I'm not throwing any codes.

The wealth of knowledge on this forum has helped me do all the maintenance on the engine through the years, but when it comes to the transmission, I know nothing.
Looks like it’s time to learn.

I’ll ask him about the solenoids.
He wants to replace the valve body while the transmission is out of the car so we don’t have to go through the labor to do it again.

my 95 atx did all sorts of weird stuff trans wise, new valve body and new solenoids and it is very good now. x2 on solenoids! don't have to totally drop trans, just drivers side and get side access cover off.

Where can I purchase a new/rebuilt valve body?

you should not need a new/rebuilt valve body. as long as the check balls are not contaminated with metal shavings that do not allow them to seat, there is not much to go wrong.

however, the solenoids do get old and tired, or fail. the pressure control solenoid is particularly prone to failure and can cause symptoms like you describe. that is why we are thinking the solenoids may well be your problem.
