I picked up one of these clips and used it for a couple months before I got my rod shifter in. It is not what I'd call a long term solution, and I think I also used a couple of cable ties to hold it in place.

thanks for the suggestion. I did use a fuel pressure gauge on the valve on the fuel rail and it showed ~30psi after the fuel pump came on, so I think that is working ok.
there is a 1/4 tank of fuel showing on the gauge.
