Mine has not had a problem with dying. It starts up promptly and runs but I am now getting a rough idle, a bad miss under load and popping on initial tip-in. Almost like a lean condition. The car has the original crank sensor and cam sensor with 175K.
I could use a bit of help here from those more experienced than I. My '89 has begun running rough, hesitating and sputtering. I did my best to run the codes with the paperclip test. On the engine off portion I got a code 14. I did a search on "engine code 14" and did not come up with any usable...
I really don't see how these brakes have lasted as long as they have. I will admit that a fair amount of the miles were highway miles but still. I did have to replace the rear brakes at 165K due to the left caliper sticking and wearing out the pads on that side.
Hi,
I have an '89 that I bought new. It has 175K miles on it now. I still have the original brakes on the front and they still have about 1/4th of the pads remaining. Is this unusual? I have never gotten this many miles out of a set of brakes.
Hi,
I have an '89 that I bought new. It now has 173K miles on it and has been carefully maintained. I have noticed a "rattle" of late at maybe 2-3,00 r.p.m.s. It's not severe but noticeable. Could this be the rod bearings that I have heard so much about?
Is there an "easy" way to pull the pan...
Hi,
My '89 has just recently started doing this cooling fan run on thing after I shut it off. I tapped an the IRCM module and the fan quit. I have to assume the swich is sticking in the on position. Are these units available anywhere? Any help on this would be appreciated.
I checked the...
Speedo cable ****
I have had trouble over the years with the speedo making noise on my '89. It also causes the needle to waver a bit. I disconnected the speedo cable under the hood where the lower section and upper section meet. I pour some parts store speedo cable **** in the short section...
I wonder if anyone can advise me on a procedure to check a turn signal relay to see if it is functioning properly. I know I could just go buy a new one and see if that makes a dif. I just like to be able to diagnose the one I have. Call me frugal but spending $40 for nothing is such a waste...
I would second the recommendation of using 91 or better octane fuel. Makes a difference as it allows more timing advance which usually always improves fuel economy.
I am fortunate that in the area where I live (Virginia) many places have gasoline without ethanol. I can see a 10% improvement...
Thanks for the response. I am a bit stumped by this problem. I've had the car since new and it has about 150K on it. It has run exceptionslly well until just the other day when it started misfiring under load and popping thru the the intake. Sounds like a lean condition to me but none of the...
My '89 started running rough quite unexpectedly the other day. I got on the website and figured how to pull codes which I did but I'm not sure how to read them. Engine off i got 11 and 14. Engine on I got 12 and 25. Can I get some help here?
Thanks
