Hi all just though I would share.

Little back ground. I had a Mazdaspeed 3 and ended up gettin a killer deal on a Z06. And a vette in the snow is a huge no no, or a no go. Which ever, I don't do nos.

Anywho, I was checking out alot of blazer ZR2's. Found one with 66k, 01. In alright shape. Some rust, needed brakes, and some minor work. Got them down to 5k. BUt decided against it because the work would run me about a grand or so. And that would put me at 6k.

Then I was talking to a buddy of mine about buying a 98 GTI VR6. It runs great, has a soft clutch, and some light body damage. 130k on the clock. Got him down to 1300 bux. BUt my friend scarred me off with a thousand dollar timing chain job and 300 dollar coil packs. etc.

Found another ZR2, an 03 w/ 44k. But damn thing smelled like a dog's choclate cherrio, and cigarette smoke. So that was out.

Then I saw this 97 M3 Convertible. Went to go take a look at it after the dealership closed(9:30ish pm). It was mint. And to my dismay it had 80k on the clock. Then 2 cars down to the right was this...........

A person came out of the dealership, I thought he was going to tell us we had to leave. But he brought the keys for us to check it out. And worked a deal on it.

It is a 1999 Ford Taurus SHO with only 29,000 miles on it.(1 owner)The car is in damn good shape.

Few scrapes and rock chips, couple dings. Nothing out of the norm for a car that is nearly a decade old. It it bone stock, except the previous owner added faux-wood trim on it.

This is my fourth SHO, but haven't had one for over 4 years. I love these things.

1989 Taurus SHO MTX Mocha/tan(62k Original Miles)
1991 Taurus SHO Plus MTX Jade Green/Tan(59k Original Miles)
1996 Taurus SHO Blk/Tan (bunch of bolt-ons)<--Sounded mean as ****.

And now my current one.

After it driving it abit, I come to believe I have the TPS wiring harness problem. So I will be fixing that this week. Otherthan that everything works in the car. My main question is, this car was babied. Do you guys really thing with only 29k getting the cams welded, and gen 2 ATX cooler is necessary?

Since this is my new daily she will stay pretty close to stock as can be. I was thinking K&N Panel filter, and perhaps a tune from a member on this board. Paul?(Been doing alot of lurking)
And maybe magnaflow mufflers. Kinda like that the SHO is quiet.

And gunna do some searching on heated seats for the SHO.

Just hope I can get my old plate back. SHO OFF 3, should be 4 now. lol.

ANd to those who care.....

If you want to take care of your new SHO, the first thing you should do, is get the cams welded.

I know I should search, but I'll ask what is the most current and best places to take it to get it welded?

I live in chicago.

WOW - 29,000 miles. That's 3000 miles per year if it was bought at the very beginning of the `99 model year.
Yeah - what did you pay? Nice car, congrats!

A little off subject, but I noticed your perfect floormat - There is a guy on FleaBay trying to sell a set of "99" OEM mats still stapled to the card. They DON'T have the little "crescent" that goes around the "SHO" like yours does. I would imagine yours are still originals, so I wonder "what gives"?

Yes everything on the car is original.

I would guess either a mid year change or perhaps they are just taurus mats with custom embroidery.

I paid a little more than I wanted, but considering it was at a stealership. I guess it is okay.

She ran me 7k. Cool thing is that the car really needs nothing except the TPS harness, tires are like new. Same with the interior, outside. You should see the trunk on this thing. Looks like it was never used.

The SHO was put on the lot at 4pm on Thursday, and I bought after closing the same day.

If you want to check it out sometime feel free. I live right next to you in Villa Park.

Looks very good. At that mileage and that condition, I do not think you paid too much.

On this:

Do you guys really thing with only 29k getting the cams welded, and gen 2 ATX cooler is necessary?

I do think you should start looking into getting the cam sprocket welding done. You are so low in miles that you do not have to worry a lot about driving it a bit between now and when it happens, but it would be smart not to push it, just accumulate the spare cash (~$800 seems to be the going rate) and get it done. Kirk apparently does a really good job, but just about any good and careful professional welder can do it.

On the cooler, if you are not pushing the car hard a lot in hot weather, I suspect you can skip it. But if you are going to track her, or you are into WOT from stop lights, it is worth doing.

800 dollars to weld it???? I think that convinces me just to buy the Ford warranty 2yr/24k, almost bumper to bumper for 1300.

IMO I would not DD that car, but nice car!

Why wouldn't you daily drive it?

Been looking at Mazdaspeed3's. What was your impression from owning one?

The best way I can describe the MS3 is a grown up SRT-4. I really have no complaints about the car. I had it for a year, and had no problems what so ever.

I took it to the track stock and it ran 14.4@99 2.3 60'(Good weather). My 04 SRT-4 went 14.1@99(August Heat)
and my 05 SRT-4 went [email protected](Good weather) and then after about 1k in mods it went 13.62@107 on street tires.

If you just want performance and cheap modibility, I would go with a SRT-4 Neon. But it you want to sacrafice 10-15percent straightline performance, the mazdaspeed3 will give you a quiet sleeper with great utility.

The mazda would be just as good as the neon in the straights if it wasn't for the tremendously short gearing in the mazda. By the end of the 1/4 you are in 5th. Have shift twice to get to 60 etc. Doesn't help the car doesn't make power after 5500rpm's.

But overall great car.

Read the fine print on that warranty. They wiil only pay you fair market value or low blue book. Less then you paid for the warranty. Last time I checked, if your deal can get what they need to fix a cam fail, parts and labor abour $6K. Don't be a fool, weld the dam thing.

Why wouldn't you daily drive it?.

It not a Taurus GL! It's a SHO with only 33K on the clock. Less of them made than your Vette.

I will read the fine print. Said engine is covered. Back in the day, I had 93 formula bought a extended warranty for 500 dollars, and that warranty covered over 3k in work on it.

If it was a Taurus GL, I would not have bought it.

But the SHO is worth about 20 percent of what my Z is. And the Z06 should definitely should not be a daily.

SHOoff3,
I have camwelds going on at my place frequently. I have one set up for next Saturday, the 6th. As you are just one town over, I invite you to stop by while another V8 SHO is opened up.
I've got several interesting sights for your eyes - spun cams, wrecked heads, pistons with valves sticking out of them - but most importantly, I can put a good cam in your hands and explain to you how it is assembled.
Then you can decide for yourself if you think maybe there is a problem here you might like to address on your own terms, at a time specified by YOU, instead of a dealer who's going to blame you for failed oil changes and "spirited driving" as they deny you warranty as they have denied so many before you.
Take a trip through the camfailure owner write-ups on V8SHO.com - it's happened hundreds of times.
http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/CamFailureLinks.htm
Scroll down about half way to "Cam Failure Links" and just start reading randomly, as you'll never get through all of them.
