I can say, I have ben putting more and more gas after the first click. I add extra litres everytime, right now I am at an extra 8 Litres. I'll let everyone know when I totally max out.

Added 10 Litres after 1st click on last fill up...

I think you will find that you can go about 20 liters past the first click off (first click varies a touch pump to pump). That is, about 5 extra gallons. Its a lot, and if you are on long trips or are intending to go as far as possible between fill ups, it is worth the time needed to dribble the extra in.

I checked mine the other day and I am averaging 22 mpg at the moment. Best I ever got was, IIRC, just a touch over 29mpg on a long highway trip in the prairies where it is straight, flat, and traffic is low so you end up at constant speeds for long periods.

wow..thanks to Nebdude and his 10mpg, I don't feel so bad at all getting between 21-26mpg mixed city/highway with my 98....

Though I still want a tune to get rid of the slop in the tranny....that'd probably make a HUGE improvement.

****, i filled up my 95 MTX yesterday and made a 130 mile round trip....the needle's barely touching the F mark right now.

*edit
I've found you can add a bit more gas if you pump really slow after the first click....I've added 2 gallons after the first click by doing that. Of course, I've filled up to the point the filler neck was full....

If you overfill the tank you can get gas into the vapor canister and set a DTC.

I have been 'overfilling' the tank that extra 20 liters for 10 years now and never gotten gas into anything it should not be in nor set any codes as a result. With over 178k on the clock, that is a lot of fill ups, so I think I am safe. :)

LOL. :) You guys do get me wondering, at times. Even my original antifreeze overflow tank is still doing just fine. ;)

But seriously, I think we really are looking at 2 things. First, and most important, the internet and boards like this form a self separating structure that statistically strains potential commentary to a very particular group. That it is the group that has more problems is not at all surprising, as that is what people tend to talk about with cars before most other things.

Second, I really do take care of the car. I know most of you people do too, but I have the advantage of having had the car from almost new and not, as a result, having had to start from the behind position of problems generated by others and their lack of constant care. Preventive maintenance is, to my mind, the secret to mechanical reliability. And that means constant inspection for problems. I do that all the time, but many people do not look until a problem crops up. Fixing problems before then really works out well in the long run, and my current intent is to keep the car as long as possible since I really like it, so long run is the goal.

So, maybe I will buy a replacement anti freeze tank just in case... :thumb:

I simply made the statement that a DTC is a risk an individual runs when they overfill the gas tank. Whether or not it has happened to you does enter into it.

Life is risk. You can only avoid it one way.

However, from a number of samples standpoint, what has happened to me does, in fact, enter into it from any statistical standpoint.

I just filled up from dead ass empty this morning. I squeezed 18.011 gallons into my tank. I guess that means I have a 18 gallon tank.:oogle:

How big is your tank?

This is always a good way to start a raging thread on the V8 List. I have twice put 21 gallons in mine and also made the trip from Indy to home, ~630 miles non-stop (didn't impress the wife since she had to **** like a Russian race horse when we pulled in).
