Spent most of last week on the Salt Flats attempting to get some good runs in, but most of the time was trying to work the bugs out of the new engine.
First run: 122.*** mph, missing and bucking the whole way, wouldn't pull in 4th, back in the pits we found two (2) plugs fouled car didn't sound right even after new plugs, still sounded better.
Second run: Turned out after the first mile marker, car wouldn't get any rpm's at all past 2100 to 2200 . Back in the pits we pulled the upper end apart checking cams, timing, compression 180 lbs in all cylinders, (new engine with no break in time) everything looked good, in all we pulled the engine apart three times, finally found the cam position senser had oil in it, bad cam seal, cleaned it all up put it back together again, still wouldn't run right than my tack went south we finally changed the DIS module, car really lit up and sounded great.
Third run: First video: 147.*** mph pulled hard 1st,2nd, most of 3rd, lost power in 4th and 5th had an old tune in the tweecer, went back to the pits put in a new tune fron Lance Chaney and SHO_SC.
Forth run: Second video: 142.*** mph car pulled hard 1st thru 3rd than lost power and missing like the 3rd run: They closed the track after the 4th run.

It was hot out there and a lot of work but it was also a lot of fun, Seanmc came out for awhile and tolded me he'll make a post about his trip and the salt. I'm really happy with this motor it has a lot of potential just have to get it worked out. You can see by the salt in the wheel wells that the surface is loose and sticky, also in the videos you can hear the car even after the car is out of sight.

I'm still trying to get there, have to figure what is wrong with the tuneing or something because I know that I've got a lot more in that motor. Also to top the week off when we loaded the car I found that I had blown a CV boot and all the grease was under the car.

Ok, Ok, Ok...I'm now sitting down and going to tell you a bit about the salt. I get to the place, and then start driving on it. First thing I notice is how hard it is to accellerate the posted 50mph speed limit. I mean, I'm putting my foot in it, and my speed is barely getting to where it needed to be. This stuff is completely different than being on a road, and to add to that, you are 3000+ft up...2 big things going against you...and the land speed racers. I get there, I see Ernie, and him and his crew are ironing out the bugs of the car. Cam sensor was bad, but they didn't know that yet. Regardless, he ran, couldn't get past 2100rpm, and hit 122mph and then turned out after the first mile. He was livid. Pushed the car back, checked codes, went into Wendover, got what we needed, and ran again. This time 147mph, and again, Ernie was ******. "I couldn't get it past 4500 in 4th!" Well, unfortunately, that was the last run. Regardless, this thing is a beast, and like no other SHO motor out there. It revs so freaking fast, and you can just push it with a couple fingers to make it move.

Here are some pics (I could have sworn I took more...oh well, hard when you have female on the mind ):

is he just trying to break a N/A reccord? why does he need to hit that MPH before boosting it?

yes, I want to break the F (2-3) liter production class record. In that class I have to stay N/A. Once I do that I can go to modified and run Nitros or stay with gas, and the record there is only like 6 mph more.

well good luck with that. you are well on your way to the reccord and it will be neat to have a SHO holding the reccord in several catagories.

when you get to the next catagory you will clean house. it wouldent suprise me if you hold the reccord for quite some time.

Thanks, :thankyou:

It's flippen hard to get speed up on the salt, but if I can get a decent tune (sho_sc & Lance Chaney are helping me with it) I should get it.

have you though about upgradeing to a gen 2 front end? that should help shed quite a bit of drag. just a thought if it is within the rules.

you probably already did it but the shocks on the bumper supports are pretty heavy, if you are aloud to make a bracket that will just hold the bumper on itwould probably save 40lbs

In the class I'm oin now I have to stay with the stock body panels, I'm talking to the tech people about pulling my side mirriors:woohoo: but right now I have to keep them.

I know the brackets are heavy I've just not though about pulling them yet. I'm pretty light as it is. Racing on the salt flats is one of the only places in the world where you add wieght to go faster. It helps you with traction on the loose surface.
