I have a 94MTX with 51K. When I go to start the car , the clutch pedal is VERY firm, While pressing on the firm clutch I am able to start the car and at the moment the car starts, the pressure releases and there is a snap sound. Any ideas?

Thanks.... You Da Man
Shifting wise, the clutch is fine through all gears. Would a worn/broken pressue plate still allow smoth shifts with no slip? I am assuming this may just be only a throwout bearing?

Also, would readjusting the clutch (as stated in owners man) contributed to these systems if I applied too much force?
Thanks

well it could be something like that if its smooth after starting.... that could be either a worn finger... or a cable now im leaning towards a cable

the easiest thing to do right now is look under and see if the cable is frayed... i had one go bad on me once, it frayed and had a few strands left on the cable that could actuate the clutch... usually it snaps closer to the pedal the "crunch" is also what i heard

usually a TOB or PP finger will be seen in other areas, but the cable being frayed might not be as noticeable

i really doubt it has anthing to do with the adjustment, but if you'd like, take a bungee cord and lift the pedal off the floor a bit, and disconnect the cable from the trans, then reconnect it and let the pedal off the bungee cord, then lift up on the pedal to re-adjust it... like i said i doubt it has anything to do with this, but its free to try, so you might as well do it

51K...I don't think it would be a "wear issue". The stock clutches have been known to last a very long time. My silver 93 has 140K and I'm fairly certain its the original clutch.

I would think that a strap or finger has broken. I'd lean towards a finger on the PP. Only because a broken strap is likely to be slapping against the bellhousing.

You can remove the starter and with the help of a light and an inspection mirror, you MIGHT be able to get a look at the backside of the pressureplate.

Yes. Why?

I mean, I know the original clutch was smaller, and prone to early wear but he has a 94'(according to his sig). Certainly, some people found a way to wear out the revised version in short order; but I know of many examples of those clutches lasting well over 100,000 miles. He says he only has 51K miles, and since removing the starter is the first step in a clutch job, it makes good sence to attempt to inspect the PP prior to dismanlting the entire front of the car.

I got in my car yesterday and I did not have the problem. But today I did. Would those parts mentioned (excluding frayed cable)show up as an intermiitent problem?

Seems like it getting progressivly worse now. It now whines during driving as I hold the clutch pedal down to shift into first.

NOt good.
