Is the moonroof standard equipment?

Hello everyone. I am 6' 5" so the additional inch or two that a moonroof takes from headroom is crucial for me. I sat in a 2011 model the other day and it had to put the seat all the way down in order to not hit my head on the moon roof cover. I then sat in a 2013 non-SHO limited and the headroom was fine.

Thanks for any info.

While I don't think it's standard equipment, I can't recall ever seeing one without a moonroof.

I read shortly before buying mine when I was looking into production numbers that an extremely low number of cars rolled out without them, I'd guess you'd be hard pressed to find one without a sunroof. I'm 6'1" but had a similar concern, on the trip to pick up the car we drove my wifes fusion and I mentioned to her that I couldnt tip my massive coffee cup all the way back without pulling the sunroof shade open or crinking my neck. on the ride home she called and asked me to test it, plenty of room lol. stupid but its all part of fitting a car.

OK, thanks for this info. I would spend too much time looking. That is what I did when I took the test drive on Saturday, I opened up the cover. It helps a lot. I have a 2004 Malibu with the sunroof and need to do the same thing.

I often wish mine didn't have the moon roof. Not for height issues since I'm about 5'10" on a good day, but mostly because I never use it and have to clean the drain lines every year.

I feel the same way. If height wasn't an issue I still would not want one. I do like the natural light but hate wind noise so I've never used it in previous cars that did have it. The one on my 2004 Malibu doesn't even open and it does not leak. I'm not even going to touch it!

I origionally looked for the car WITHOUT the moonroof - so many cars I had that had NOTHING but issues with moonroofs. Since I say y/2000 almost any decent model it comes standard. I have a Scion TC - my wife old DD and it broke once under warranty - after that I told her to stop opening it. Her new Civic Turbo - same thing - its a turbo therefore has a moonroof. KEEP it closed, however it takes like what - 2" out of the headroom.... so dumb.

My motto when I moved to Florida was "in the sunshine state you need a sunroof or a convertible" that is wrong, there are few days you can enjoy open air in this state and the sun kills convertible tops and sunroof seals. My wife's fusion had a clogged drain, stray cats sprayed the sunroof, then it rained, reactivated the spray and rinsed it all into the driver's side floorboard. It's just extra maintenance but life is easier without them.

Agreed they are very prevelant in higher end models. I just bought a 2024 Hyundai Kona, not the top of the line like I wanted, since you could NOT get it without a sun/moon roof. So in my case they lost money in a sale of a higher priced vehicle. so annoying. That model contains the better engine as well.

I can tell you of the almost 7600 SHO’s made in 2013 about 1150 didn’t have a sunroof. I had a 2012 with no sunroof, also a 2013, a 2016 and a 2017 with no sunroof so you can find them, I ordered my 2018 with it When I decided to get a new one before production ended in 2019.

Thanks for the reply. Those numbers are encouraging. I drove a 2017 with the moonroof this past Saturday to see if perhaps it was any better than the 2013 I test drove a few weeks ago and it was actually worse. I am going to see a 2015 though today that I verified with the dealer that it does not have the moonroof.

keep us informed - the 2015 year + is the preferred models I would pick from.

I had a 2011 SHO that was a base model with 1 option, 20” tires. It had no moon roof. It was my first SHO, wife knew I wanted more options and surprised me one day by telling me to meet her at a local dealership. When I pulled in there was a brand new 2016 SHO fully loaded (driver assist package) with every available option other than massaging seats. Even the exact color I wanted.

Except they kept removing options as the years went on! They removed massage seats in 2017 also the anti engine roll mount at the bottom of the radiator that costs me a few 1/10s in my 1/4 mile times (I’m fixing that soon as it gets warmer). They removed power tilt and rear sunscreen in the last year 2019, I found out the power tilt wheel thing late and had to jump through hops to get a 2018 ordered the way I wanted it, I’m 6’6 and was not about to have to throw that stupid tilt lever under the column every time I got in and out of the car! I had to have my memory power tilt/telescopic! lol rear sunshade was just an unused bonus. Now they did fix little items and issues each year up until the end for sure (like ptu drain plug) I keep my 2013 and 2015 MKS‘s for the smooth ride, glass roofs but more so for the massage seats on long trips. I have over 20 cars, from gt350r to Lamborghini I drive my SHO more then any other car I own by far!

I refuse to own a vehicle with a sun roof, our 1993 SHO was white, no sun roof, built in July, purchased in 1995, 20 years later found a 2013, white, no sun roof, built in July purchased in 2015 (about 30 days from being exactly 20 years between purchases) it was like fate.

MY Ford Raptor doesn't have a sun roof either, definitely hard to find

So I really liked the 2015 I drove yesterday and am picking it up tomorrow. The dealer inspected it and changed the oil. Carfax looks decent. I was thinking of running an auto check report as well. It’s got 89k on it along with the performance option. Any advice on what should be changed out/looked at at this mileage? It handled and rode nice but I imagine the struts/shocks may need to be changed?

Thanks,
Joe

You have the water pump which have been known to go around 100k miles and would be the first priority to check the weep hole for any seepage. Now that the dealer is changing the oil there goes the opportunity to check the oil for a milky color. To be honest I am a cynic and would say before they even have you a ride they would wipe down the weep hole near the oil filter to make sure you wouldn't know if there was a problem.

That said change ÀLL fluids PTU/RDU - transmission - no filter to service - brake fluid - and antifreeze.

Then review shocks / struts brakes and suspension including wheel bearings and half shafts.

Then read this like the bible https://shoforum.com/threads/sm105ks-ownership-performance-maintenance-thread.138235/
