I recently purchased a 15 with 105 now 107k miles and I was told the turbos were replaced 20k ago (not sure how to check that unless I go to a dealer correct and have them run the vin?) I noticed while I had the car up on the lift some oil leakage off the back of the motor possibly from oil return not exactly sure but I also noticed oil in the air box and around the throttle body. I’ve attached some images to show what I’m looking at. Just wondering if this is normal or should I be looking harder into this.6c026226799101ed88a282b3af64ca81

The oil stains look normal to be at the throttle body and the PCV connector. I don't know how oil would get into the airbox and it doesn't look fresh. Maybe someone spilled oil in there a while back when servicing.

It has a drop in K&N so I’m guessing it was from the filter itself as it’s one of the oiled ones

Yeah a bad stuck closed pcv valve could cause oil to spread to the box. If the rest of the intake piping is clean oil from filter and too much was applied

You would be blowing smoke out the tail pipes if the pcv was that messed up

The oil is on the filter input side so I don't see oil getting past the filter IMHO unless it's crap load of oil. Even then, air only flows one direction in the box.

After some research on that filter its directions say to oil the gasket around it as well so I’m guessing the last owner just oiled the crap out of both sides. Just had me worried also because I found some metal shavings in the tube so I didn’t know wtf had happened. Which honestly idk how shavings would get all the way there on the clean side of the filter unless somehow the system spun backwards. It seems to run fine though “no lights” other than some weird idle phenomenon that happens on occasion. Typically it sits just a little over 500 but every once in awhile after driving “not hard” it will drop below 500 with a weird out of rhythm almost stutter. I was almost thinking plugs or slight vacuum leak but not sure.

I have seen a handfull that were over oiled over the years. Probably did that myself on the first K&N I bought and did the first "recharge" with the oil back in the late 90's.
