Hey everyone, Just got my used 2013 SHO (65,000 miles) back in September and so far I love it, its the first car I bought for myself and the first car I feel confident enough to rip apart and work on, unlike my old Audi. So far I haven't done anything to it besides adding new door speakers and just getting to know the car, but when I'm able to work in the summer and I'm not in college I have a few plans. Right now I have a set of H&R lowering springs I plan on putting on as soon as I can go home for a weekend (no garage on campus). Any advice would be appreciated, especially since I have the non-PP and I've read people have had issues with pogoing. Every other mod I want to do so far seems to be pretty normal stuff for this platform, tune, catless downpipes, intercooler, etc. But before I do that I want to make sure the car is running good (it does have almost 70k miles now) and learn how to change all the fluids and everything myself. I've read people changing their drivetrain fluids every so often, and I'd like to know what I would need. I've done oil changes but I've never changed PTU, transmission, or any other major fluids like that, any advice on maintenance schedules would be appreciated as well. Any advice, in general, would be helpful, I'm new to mechanical stuff in cars and I'm excited to finally have a car that'll be fun to work on, and not a hand-me-down car from my mom. I don't want anything too crazy, just a fun daily I can still take to meets/shows and still be interesting. I look forward to the journey, there's the car and me with it the day I got it!

follow @SM105K thread on the maintenance etc issue. pretty comprehensive.
A lot of the information in that thread came from recommendations and knowledge bestowed from you. I can't thank you enough.

And thank you for your thread! Gives me a lot to read/think about, especially for maintenance, a lot of stuff I wouldn't even think about with my limited knowledge!

Good to see another 13 owner. I wouldn't worry about the pogoing honestly. A lot of people that installed the H&R on non pp cars. Let it ride. The rear springs are super easy to install. Get the car in the air. Remove the the sway bar link ends from the sway bar. Let them dangle, then remove the large bolt near the RDU that attaches to the A arm. Use a jack to lower the arm, you will be able to pull the rear spring out. Re-install in reverse order. I can get them done now in 20 mins start to finish.

The front's aren't as easy. You will have to remove the strut assembly. Remember the large bolts are splined. Break the nut loose and run it to the end flush with the bolt end. Then take a hammer and smack it. They will come out. I learned that the hard way. I would then take the whole assembly to a shop and have them remove the stock springs, and install the H&R's on the struts. I am not a fan of using coil spring compressors. That is just me. Put it all back to together, and get your car aligned. Remember it will take your car a couple of days to settle.

No worries. It was fun making and evolving that thread. It certainly wasn't my intention when I started it. Glad it can help.

That makes me feel a lot better, ill probably plan on getting that done around spring break in 2-3 weeks if I can't get to it sooner. I will probably have my neighbor whos a mechanic help me with the fronts, I would go to a local shop but his shop is the one I go to already and he'd probably end up putting them on anyways, this way the money goes straight to him, and its much cheaper.

Saying you can get the rears done (with your experience) in 20 minutes has me thinking, do you think this is something I could get done in a weekend? I plan on giving myself some more time than I need 1) because this is all new to me and I'm gonna be learning as I go and 2) the car is from Michigan and has a little rust, nothing crazy but I don't want to break anything and have to leave my car home and go back to college. I have a history of being over-cautious with most things, do you think this is just a case of me being over-cautious again and 2-3 days is more than enough time? I get this depends on my neighbor as well but if I can get the strut assembly out I'd bet he can get the springs swapped the same day

The fronts are kind of an adventure. If your neighbor is willing to help it will be immense. The rears are pretty easy, if you have the tools. Two to Three days is more than enough. I got mine done in roughly five to six hours, and that includes waiting for Pep Boys to swap out my front springs.
