Replaced it with the Magnaflow, third cat was modded in a way if I want I could remove on my own and replace with 2.5 pipe and clamps. Shops anymore don't like messing with emissions, so they were nice and worked with me. If I decide to remove it again. If I had purchased non catted PPE DPs they wouldn't even have installed them. From front is PPE catted DPs, pipes on third cat are moved up to 2.5, Magnaflow resonator, MRT axle-back with Helmholtz resonators. Alot of money spent on exhaust, but heck everything for this platform is alot of money spent .

I tried this setup, but ended up pulling the magnaflow out and putting the stock resonator back in, it helped quite a bit with the raspy sounds. When I looked through the the stock resonator it didn't look like there was any significant air flow restrictions, the stock mufflers on the other hand, looked to be a pretty good choke point.

My rasp occurred after removing third cat, hence why i put it back. My resonators on my MRT I believe is what is saving me from all the rasp. I have a nice deep tone, and at full throttle, no rasp with third cat back in use. And I have a deep v8 rumble in the cab.

Ok guys, so I don't think I've left any thread unread when it comes to exhausts, any YouTube video unwatched.... basically I'm ready to do my PHD in SHO exhausts lol. The funny thing is, there's no consistency and that goes to show you the different variables that go into the end product. Everyone's perception of drone is different, the video clips we share are nothing what they sound like in person so really the only way one knows if something works for them is when they do it in person, heck ours cars are different ever so slightly so me with muffler deletes isn't getting as much drone vs the next person because for whatever reason, maybe his motor is working harder for whatever reason creating that resonance due to being 50 rpm off or something. So after a lot of research, I did this setup, vibrant ultra quiet resonators in place of mufflers, I would say that's probably the best thing for our cars cause lots of people followed this setup and no complaints from anyone. You still get the noise but very minimal drone. BTW, there will always be drone! You're altering a setup ford perfected and now putting in universal parts to go loud and not have drone? Very hard to accomplish, yea the Helmholtz resonators can eliminate it but again you're now doing R&D that ford did to finetune the exhaust so it's not cheap. Now that's they're properly broken in, I want to go a hair louder and this is my biggest problem lol. I don't wanna touch something that's working and move a piece and completely ruin it. I will be doing resonator OR 3rd cat delete in place of an x pipe. That seems to be the best advise to play it safe but I'm wondering if it'll even make any difference or I do resonator delete and maybe straight pipe that and leave OEM 3rd cat. I know most of you will cringe at that idea but remember, I still have resonators out in the back so it's not straight piped as a muffler delete plus with 3rd cat still there, shouldn't overwhelmingly become raspy. Or I could throw the longest glasspacks to maybe help a but. I don't wanna throw a resonator cause that would just bring me back to what I have now and me having 2 resonators would defeat the purpose of me doing this in the first place. Will wait for your thoughts on this. Video of my setup

I have the MRT axle back, which is basically the same thing but I removed the resonator, then a week later put it back in because the drone was awful!

I'm NOT an expert but after looking through the mufflers and the resonator, the mufflers looked like the biggest restriction, I don't think the resonator restricts anything it's just straight through but the mufflers were tapered to a very small hole. I still think I might do the Helmholtz because the kids complain about drone in the backseat, I just need to know what length to do them at, to make sure I eliminate the drone.

If I had to do it over again, knowing what I know now, I would do cutouts with a switch so I could be sleeper most of the time but hit a button and let her breathe when needed.

Yeah I went MRT and and to install Helmholtz resonators to tone drown the drone. Nice deep rumble, but yeah if I could do it's all over again I would have just a done a muffler delete and added
resonators and saved a bunch of money, I made a post not long ago, with pics on how I did my resonators on the MRT, removed the resonator and installed a Magnaflow. Muffler/ resonator, been happy with results. But for some reason removing the third cat caused a lot of drones so I had the third cat reinstalled. But it's clamped so I have options of removing it again, since they added flanges and gave me pipes with clamps to remove it easily.

Those MRTs don't have a good rep with our cars, they tend to have drone just by themselves, then removing the resonator just makes it worse. Had you removed the 3rd cat instead and left the resonator, i think you wouldve probably had the same issue. I know the resonators are straight through, the 3rd cat is basically an x pipe but if youre already experiencing drone/rasp, touching any of those just makes things worse
Just run it out under the front doors, surprisingly minimal drone.

Interesting....it does sound clean but i have no intention of dumping those tips there
Just save and buy corsa like me
Im sure you have drone as well, probably turn the radio up and imagine its not there lol

So you had the magnaflow resonator as well as the helmholtz pipes? I would love to hear someone do this setup, remove 3rd cat and resonator, put a resonated magnaflow x pipe like part 11385, remove mufflers. Would be interested to hear what this would sound like. For my setup, i keep flopping between 3rd cat delete or resonator delete. 3rd car would add rasp, resonator would add drone lol, maybe i can throw some long glasspacks in place of the resonators, that might help

Interesting, so you did your 3rd cat and resonator at the same time. From all the research Ive done, ive come to the conculsion that you touch one of the other, doing them both at the same time can really throw things off. Youre video isnt there anymore for some reason, so what did you do then with the glasspacks? I wanna do that WITH the oem 3rd cat plus like i mentioned, my mufflers have been replaced with vibrant resonators so I still have resonators in my setup

I've always wanted to post my exhaust but my Nokia makes it sound terrible. Inside the car it's sounds like a V8. I like my Magnaflow in place of the resonator, it's when I removed the third cat, the rasp was terrible. I have very little drone. And it really quite at highway speeds. Everyone that's heard it in person really likes the tone as it's idling.

This is the guy who I got the idea from, I took his pics of setup to muffler shop and they just copied it. First install I didn't make it 10 miles and drove back and temporally had stock put back on, because I didn't have the resonators added , was easy to swap back since they clamped instead of welding on first go around, the drone was that bad. Mine sounds very close, but with the Magnaflow I've have a slightly deeper rumble. Third cat is clamped and they made me pipes if I choose to remove 3rd cat again. He sold his setup on eBay earlier this year when he sold the car.

I had the downpipes previously but everything else was done at the same time. I’m still running the same set up. It would be interesting to hear it with the factory third cat. It may not drone but if I had to guess it may be higher pitched and possibly raspy. If I were to change anything I’d try a regular two in, two out resonator after the X pipe. However, I seriously doubt anything 3” would fit. It all hangs pretty low as it is. I’ll most likely leave it alone till she quits.

The sound is pretty decent for an audible V6. No rasp, slight buzz, but it is very low and while technically kinda loud you feel the vibration more than hear it... if that makes sense.

Put the 3rd cat back on and let me know so I can decide!!! lol but like i said before, i wont be touching the 3rd cat cause just like you and many others have reported, the second you modify that, things only get worse. I think ill just remove the resonator and put straight pipes there and see how it is. Im not a big fan of magnaflow cause it really dumbs down the volume and in essence making it more quieter than what Im looking for. I removed my resonator and muffler off my other car (which is a V8) and slapped a magnaflow 11385 which is a dual in dual out resonatoed x pipe, was suprised on how things got some much quieter. It was almost like a sport plus option, meaning just a bit more louder than OEM. I removed that and put on flowmaster fx resonators and am much happier. Sure its a different platform but I wonder what it would be like on our cars.

Ha, quite the opposite. Things only got better. It ran stronger and faster than ever!

I was never doing it for the sound. For some stupid reason I’m was hellbent on making a Taurus produce me an 11 on a time slip. Hahaha mission accomplished! Now she’s retired and continues daily driver duty’s.

Same really, but with combo of MRT, they help zero out each others faults in the sound. Still I never expected that all said and $2,500 in just exhaust was extreme to me, but I'm including the price of the PPE to in the cost.
