I'm curious on the restud part. Don't think you'd need to restud for 10mm but I could be wrong or spend fifty bucks on spacers with studs. Even then that's under the assumption your using stock wheels. Just curious how that's $170 worth of difference if that is the case.
For the wheel spacer part, for it to be "safe" you need to have a specific amount of thread engagement. Removing 10mm of that would not be recommended even by the people that sell spacers, I learned that first had when I had my STi. Side from the spacers, you're still going to need to get a grinder out and grind down the brackets to fit. I don't know how handy you are with a grinder (or any other average person) but it seems a little strange that they designed a bracket that requires modification to actually fit. I'm not saying TCE is a bad company or anything, but I noticed farther back in the thread people wanted "DIRECT BOLT ON" which this kit is technically not.
Quick jumping back to the spacer thing and cost. You'll be in the hole for $50-100 for spacers depending on brand/quality. Since it sounds like "quality" is what you're after lets assume $100. Then you need to buy quality extended studs, assume $35-75 depending on brand/quality. Then you will need the mechanical expertise to install said studs, or you can take them to a shop to have them installed which could be upward of $300 at a dealer (remember, quality install with those quality parts). Prices are based on quick google search and may vary, but ultimately the TCE kit could cost you another $500 on TOP of what you're already paying for the kit itself or even just the brackets alone.
About the grinding portion, wouldn't removing material compromise the integrity of those super quality parts? Wouldn't damaging them remove any kind of warranty for said parts? I am all about the safety aspect as I work in a bodyshop and deal with safety items all the time. Aside from that I have my wife and daughter to think about since they are often in the car with me. You guys may or may not have the same worries I do, but I would rather not risk it for the biscuit over $45 (Group buy) - $170.
