Another Rotors and Pads Thread

I see a ton of rotors + pad threads on here and I'm not really clear on what does and doesn't fit pp and non pp. I have a NON pp and need new rotors and pads for the front, preferably slotted and drilled. Would y'all mind throwing me some links? Appreciate it.

What year is it? The 2010 - 2012's use a different size than the newer models.

if you're 13+ it's all the same. 10-12 are PP and non PP specific.

Ya know...I keep seeing and wondering about that black zinc coating; does it rub off and reveal a silver surface in a few hundred miles? Or is it actually black all the way down to the center vents?

The zinc coating protects the slots and the hat. The braking surface will come off after a few brakes.

As for pads, I like the R1 Semi Metallics, ran them up until I did my Wilwood brake swap and still run them on the rear. Hawk HPS is great as well but 4x the cost for not much better braking.

The Hawk HPS, while a good pad, is an improved street pad, far better than factory pads.

BUT, if you do any kind of track days or autocross, or live and drive in an area needing heavy braking that get fade with your stock pads, there are better solutions.

Rotors are big heat sinks, and don't enhance your braking performance. Buy drilled/grooved/slotted/sprinkled with pixie dust because you like the looks. If you just want good brake performance, buy the cheapest blank rotors you can find.

I put a set of R1 black zinc coated rotors on the Edge in June. No bueno! It’s all gone already. They’re all white/gray now. Pretty bummed about that.

I recently purchased Akebono Performance Ultra Premium Ceramic - Front; Pad Set, 2014 Ford non-PP
Taurus , Contents Premium Stainless Hardware Included w/SHO w/Standard Brakes

I purchased the Premium Cross-Drilled & Slotted Brake Rotors (#CB-65136)
Quantity: 1 Sets: Front (Two Rotor Set) Color: Black - 2014 - Ford - Taurus SHO- With Vented Hat
at BRAKEPERFORMANCE.COM the rotors are made in the USA
I went with the black zinc coating for the hubs to match my rim color.

The installation was easy and there is no brake in required with the pads. The zinc coating on the rotor surface takes the place of oil so there is no need to spray them down with brake cleaner. the zinc wipes off of the pad surface on the first braking application. They are very smooth, no noise and very little dust. great for stopping at high speeds. I highly recommend them. The last pair i bought of slotted rotors and pads came as a set, they were from china, BEWARE ( I didn't know it when i bought them ) they required a brake in pattern and they were terrible, it felt like I was using rocks as brake pads. the Akebono pads are very smooth in comparison.
