Okay smart people! I have a question regarding fixing a ceramic coating mistake.

I ceramic coated my car, two years ago, this October (which is why I suggest having it done professionally). :)

While I'm VERY pleased with how it turned out, I apparently had an interruption while coating my left rear door, and I ended up leaving the coating on the part of door (yes, without wiping it off after flashing).

My question is....how much "polisher" should I use to remove that high spot? Not being a body guy, specifics would be helpful. What polish, pad, etc.? How aggressive should I be?

As always, thanks in advance,
S

For a proper fix, you will have to redo the whole process on the door for a uniform look. Rinse, de-iron, rinse, wash, clay, de -con, compound, polish, re-de-con, and then re-apply the ceramic coat. Be glad it is just a door.

Yeah but I'm wondering how to get the ceramic off the door....or at least buff it down enough to either look right or allow me to do the door over.

Compounding will remove the ceramic coat. If only try to level it, it could fade and not be uniform and you will really notice it. That is why the whole door has to be stripped and redone.

I used Adam's Polishes, which again...turned out excellent! ...except for the part I screwed up. I've also reached out to them to see what they recommend.

As for compounding, that looks like 1500-ish grit polishing. That sounds promising.

I'll let everyone know what Adam's suggests as well, in case someone follows in my footsteps (however I advise you, not).

Well SM105K, as usual, you nailed it! I was concerned that I might need to use something more harsh in taking down the high spots (that's what the kids are calling it, these days), since this is supposed to be 9H hardness. But Adam's responded with the SAME thing you said!

So, point for SM105K!

I'll try to grab a pic that captures a before state.

After I did mine, I learned a ton. Ceramic coatings are amazing, but if you screw up....

Okay! So here are a couple pics showing my mistake. You can clearly tell I went side to side, and as I moved down the door, I moved a little less to the left.

And yes! A light polishing is all that was needed! I wish I knew that 18 months ago when I first messed it up! Thanks again @SM015K! I don't figure an "after" pic is necessary; it just looks like it SHOULD now. ...and I don't cringe every time I look at the read left door. In fact, I smile. :D
