Good day folks. I am in the process of rewiring the Shogun right now. Initial I had planned to put in a new painless chassis harness, coupled with a Holley EFI Pro ems to run the drivetrain. That plan is still going to happen, however for the time being to get the car back up and running for other misc work I am going to rebuild the OEM engine harness and work it back into the car so that it can be easily swapped out later next year with little fuss. I am going to use a pair of millspec bulkhead connectors to feed the necessary wiring between the chassis harness and the engine harness, much like the Porsche 911's do
That being said, what I want to do is eliminate any possibly sub systems in the harness that I technically do not need. When this car was built in 1990, they essentially took the entire harness and did a rear transplant more or less, and it is laid out much as it was in the SHO taurus engine bay.
One, the car has no emissions compliance here in this state due to its age. No cats, etc. Can the EGR be deleted without any negative performance aspects? I can machine blockoff plates and any hardware needed, and do not care if there is a system CEL/code as there is no CEL in the dash. I know some manufactures incorporated "limp mode" type garbage with some EGR systems and just wanted to make sure that there was none of that with this car.
Two, the CCRM. I know this controls the fuel pump and fan(s)/ fan speed on various SHO Taurus models. On this car, the new radiator fans and fuel pumps are now controlled on their own independent circuits, completely isolated from any PCM control. With that in mind, can the CCRM also be deleted without any ill effect or does it control other subsystems in the factory PCM(ignition mainly) that would otherwise prevent the engine from running if bypassed and removed?
Mind you I am not a "newb" when it comes to automotive electrical systems. Have performed many engine transplants in my life that required weeding harnesses. I just figured I'd ask the veteran SHO meddlers before diving in with nips and a soldering iron
Greatly appreciate all the help thusfar and putting up with my questions. The Shogun mechanical resto is moving along nicely and I hope to have it back up and running for next spring at this rate.
