Has anybody done this? I have one cylinder with no compression on my next project. I have the gauges to verify cylinder wear but was wondering about the cylinder composition related to using a ball hone.

I would like to install new piston and rings and hone the cylinders if the wear is acceptable.

Shoot an email to the livernois crew. They have a whole deck insert they developed so maybe they have thoughts about oem design and cylinder wall thickness etc

I see oversize pistons here

so it looks like you may be able to slightly overbore. You would have to track down rings and info is sparse but some poking around the aftermarket ring suppliers may prove fruitful
I'm planning to measure the cylinders and if within limits just hone, install new pistons and rings. I'm just wondering if these blocks/liners can be honed. Not sure if these have the coatings that cant be honed or if it's just a steel liner.

I know the GT500 (5.4 and 5.8) went to spray bore lining around 2011. And it seems the 2018 F-150 5.0 has spray bore, as does the 5.2 in the GT350. I've not seen anything about spray bore in an Ecoboost. Or any Ford 6 cylinder.
I suspect this is what you are alluding to.

Yes the coatings... Well my best guess is still Livernois or someone that actually physically alters these things to get good intel. I see the oversize pistons etc so overbore is doable. So people are machining these things and those people should know if they need to be sleeved or (I don't even know if plasma coating is readily available in small batches). This is newer tech than on the engines I had that kind of work done on.
