Hello, I hope everyone had a nice Christmas. Happy new year, make sure to have a great time out with friends and family. Just make sure you and your friends make it back home at the end of the night. Waking up in county or the trama center is not the way to start the new year. But we already know that.
Happy holidays everyone!
Anyway, I'd like your opinions on ring gap for these 3 5 ecoboosts. I've seen a couple different suggestions on the web net and would like the opinion of people who know the ecoboost well rather than just the generalities you get out there.
So some of the methods I've come across is to gap the top ring, the second ring gets a larger gap and then the top ring ring of the oil control sandwich gets a smaller gap than ring 1(top ring)
Method 2 suggests gapping ring 1, the second ring gets the same gap as ring 1 and the top ring of the oil Control sandwich gets the same gap as ring 1 and 2. The bottom ring of the sandwich is left alone.
Also, what is the Benefits of having thicker rings. I see some companies have top rings at 1.2 and other companies have 1.5 thick top ring.
So yea, any opi ions on Piston rings I. General would be greatly appreciated. Why this or that should or should not be done In This or that manner would all be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys
Jesse

the engine is more likely to blow a hole in the piston than crack a ring. i suppose if you have a precision rebuild done you could go with smaller ring gaps, but you need an experienced and trustworthy engine builder to make that decision. then if you have the bank to live with the consequences, proceed.

otherwise, stick with oem specs, no need for oversize or undersize rings. you can certainly get better than oem materials, but not without considerable expense for not much gain.
