Water in passenger floorboard, Sunroof? A/C?

Hi guys, new 2013 SHO owner here! :-D

With that out of the way, I came out to my new (to me) car to find standing water in the passenger floor board. I looked at the sunroof and there was a slight wet spot on it but the seat, console, dash were all dry. Now when I said standing water I mean it was above the height of the carpet slightly, completely soaked 2 towels through. I cleaned and oiled the rubber sunroof seal but I have a hard time believing that much water was from the sunroof. What should I check for?

Also side note, I thought there was an intelligent AWD display feature on the gauges to show you power distribution, how do I get there?

Welcome! Probably clogged sunroof drains, a very common problem. Otherwise MAY BE a leak at the windshield itself. Blow out the sunroof drains (located at each corner) with compressed air, the water should be draining out the bottoms of the doors.

The AWD display has to be programmatically enabled. Jason at http://pimods.com can give you details. Seems like that website has changed, not sure what happened ...

I agree that most leaks on any year of these sedans would be sunroof seal, drain tubes and windshield seal. Other idea is could possibly be heater core leak if it is physically on the interior side of the firewall

I had this issue during heavy rains and car washes and found that the water was coming in due to a clogged water drain under the windshield wiper cowl. This was causing water to come up and over the fresh air intake for the climate control. Had to pull the wiper arms off to get under it to clean the ports on both the driver and passenger sides. Check for a wet or moldy cabin air filter behind the dash as that is how i found that it was coming in through there and not my sunroof.

I was going to say the same thing - AC drain, or some other way that water is coming into the HVAC box.

Oh, forgot to mention, it is definitely NOT coolant. Is there some kinda guide or pictures for where these drains are and how to clean them? I'm going to check to cabin filter when I get home, sounds actually pretty likely from how much water was in there.

and regarding the AWD display again, is this something that can be done at home? I am slightly adept at programming and electronics so I would not be scared of tinkering :D. The manual says it's there but I can't see it.

Using Forscan and a bluetooth OBD-II adapter I bought on Amazon, it was easy to turn on the AWD display. AND - get rid of that annoying double-honk when you leave the car running and get out.

Drains on the old cars were on each corner and ran down the pillars in the front and rear, to the back of each wheel area for drainage. I assume it is similar setup as you need room for drain tubing along the inside of the unibody to get to the ground

Laser, this video shows where to clean them. The video is for a Flex but the SHO is exactly the same
. Make sure the rain hat over the fresh air vent is not cracked which can also let water in.

Start there, it's a good set of data and other links. Search around that site as well. Over thing to note, people will post whole code strings, you don't want to use those. You want to figure out just what bit need to be updated and then make that change. Whole strings will likely be wrong for your car.

Write down original values so you can revert to them if needed.

I'm not at my computer, so I can't give as complete a response as I would like, but for the AWD and you left the car running but too the keys honk, it was pretty straightforward.

No codes involved on this one. I think I solved my multi-year problem with water getting to the cabin air filter and waterlogging it to the point of not allowing any air flow. The symptom is easily solved by putting in a new cabin air filter, but that gets expensive when using the carbon filters. Three visits to the dealership, including replacing the entire cowling cover didn't solve it (sorry, Ted Britt - you had three opportunities and failed!) so I explored it myself. Short version is that "yellow death", aka 3M 8001 weather-strip adhesive, would have solved it because the real issue was the upper-most cowling wouldn't stay down against the windshield and that allowed water to get under it to the air plenum. Dealership wanted use RTV (silicone sealant) but that would have only been a fix for the symptom. The root cause (are you paying attention, Ford Quality??) is that the flexible part of the cowling (brand new from Ford) doesn't seal down to the windshield glass and has gaps that not only allow water to flow through but let debris (leaves and such) that further keep the flexible strip from sealing to the glass. RTV won't fix that!

Like the hood and trunk seam rust issue for the Taurus (and other cars/trucks of the same years), Ford has known about this issue and has not responded in a way that (1) fixes it and (2) restores our trust. Ford, we know you can do better and given you made the business decision to **** off most passenger vehicles in the US in the next few years, it would be in your best long term interests to do well for the customers and fans you have at this time.

had the trunk seam rust here also did my own repair on it looks good too rust mort seam sealer and re paint

Yuk. Between that and the peeling chrome on the taillights ... And if you are really OCD how the body panels and light assemblies line up ...
