Check out 5 Star Tuning. You can get the SCT X4 directly from them with their tunes on it for about $400. They also sell 3 Bar map sensors and thermostats, exhaust, cold air kits etc

I have used their tunes on several vehicles. I have SCT X4 tuner with cat back ford performance touring exhaust, cold air intake, thermostat, 3 Bar map sensor and properly gapped plugs..car hauls ass!

I have tunes from both 5 Star and Unleashed and they are nearly identical. Nice thing about the SCT X4 you can try more than one tune and/or tuner to get what you like and it also works on 5 different vehicles if you sell your car.

I think livernois just told me that I need the tstat and 3 bar minimum before tuning.. I'll likely go SCT. Seems to have a bit more options, I like the hardware more, and it's a lot cheaper.

Those aren't 100% needed, but highly recommended. Who you are tuned by doesn't change that.

As for cost, unless you never plan on owning another Ford, the others aren't cheaper in the long run. If someone plows into your backend and you have to get a new car, you are paying for another tune. With Livernois you would get that new car tuned without paying anything additional.

They also are a real business, with a building, and employees and lots of overhead. When you really think about it, comparing apples to apples, the other places that do tuning should be charging 1/10th what Livernois charges, if that. What skin in the game do they have other than a website?

- I agree with everything you posted and speaking from the perspective of someone who will be attempting to install (plugs, thermostat, and cold air) tomorrow and has not yet purchased a tune I find one small issue with your post. Given the fact the SHO has almost no gauges, I would like to be able to monitor some of my cars parameters. I don't care about data logging but on the other hand I would be interested in looking at some of the data. So the issue is, Livernois tuner doesn't have the functions as the other tuners. So I am still not sure which one I will purchase.

You can get a Bluetooth ODB II dongle that plugs into your car and use an app like torque pro to monitor pretty much anything you want access for relatively little money. I paid 20 for mine about a year and a half ago but usually they are a bit more, torque pro is 5 or 6 bucks.

Something like this:

Amazon does not have a brick n mortar shop but they seem to do ok ...

Admittedly I too would like my tuner to have such a shop, but in this computer driven age, not a necessity. Reputation is far more important.

But if you lose your SHO and get a Chevy SS, and Livernois tunes it for you free, that definitely adds a WOW factor to their case!

All you need is torque pro loaded on either a tablet or your phone and you're ready to go!
My phone bugged out. I should have added I'm using the OBDLink app and forscan on my phone. But for $5 I'll try out torque pro

I've never used forscan, but I believe it is virtually the same thing as torque pro.

Not sure if it will work on your tablet, but I believe torque has a free version with limited use that you can download to test. If the free version works, the pay version should also.
