The ecu recognizes the lack of knock and adds timing on its own

Right, upto a certain extent... That's where LOR/OAR ratios come into play.. stock the OAR(octane adjust ratio) moves as close to -1 as it can based on feedback from the knock sensor... It's scales spark accordingly.. it's one way the car keeps itself healthy... if it gets constant knock retard it will raise the OAR which reduces the amount of spark...but there has to be a table with predefined limits on how much additional spark the ecu will add.

Mine sits at -.96 .... Maybe adding the E will get it to move to -1... Maybe a half degree of spark? Maybe 1 full degree? I'm planning on testing it out.

Even on factory tune e20 mix will make a difference. On my gas cap thing it says e15 is ok

Hahaha. You also have a point.
But you're right. Trying it is the best way to prove my point.

Yup, loaded up on E20 today... gonna give it some time to see if OAR adjusts for it... then datalog to see if there is any hard evidence of this doing anything for you without being tuned for it...

One of the side benefits of E85 is a cooler charge from what I am reading... not sure how much cooler a charge E20 vs E10... but could play a factor as well..

And if you don't care about knock or want to disable this, get an SSI tune and then hold your breath! What? Did I just open a can of worms with that??

Why would you disable LOR/OAR? That would seem to me to be a great way to protect against bad gas...

Although the knock sensor should retard timing on its own upto a point... If you have constant knock then the OAR starts to rise so spark gets scaled back as a whole... Or least thats what I have been informed, read, seen...

Why stir the ***...lol

So after E20 and some data logging I see no increase in spark... nothing that would indicate an increase in power. I still need to datalog some temps to see if the E20 is giving any additional cooling effects... Otherwise the only change I see is a small hit to my fuel pressure which I expected...

I think I am sticking with my theory until I can find some concrete evidence... If you are not having any knock issues running a 93 tune... Mixing E20 without tuning for it is not going to net you anything noticeable...

I have several tunes... But I decided to test using the LMS 4+X tune which is one of the conservative tunes I run.
