The PP pkg comes with a variety of "extras" not common to the Non-PP equipped cars.

It also depends on the model years, as far as what you get.

All PP Equipped cars come with the 3.16 axle. Non-PP come with the 2.77.

There have been many debates on the differing axle ratios and what's perceived as being "faster".

It has been shown, time and time again, that when a tune is applied, the Non-PP's are consistently faster.

Moving along, again depending on model year, the PP equipped cars come with better brakes, and a slew of auxiliary coolers, that certainly help make the PP Equipped cars able to handle true track (& street) duties efficiently and worry free.

With the exception of the water cooled PTU, all other auxiliary coolers from a PP Equipped car can easily be retro fitted onto a Non-PP car.

I'm sure others will chime in after me, but that is the jist of it, in a nutshell.

As bpd said, the advantage of having the Perf Pkg is that you can pilfer parts for your non-Perf Pkg equipped SHO :D

The PP has one thing that a lot of people don't mention. It makes them actually able to perform at the limits of a track and it cannot be swapped into a non-PP vehicle. PP cars (at least 10-12 models, not sure on 13+) have the ability to completely turn off traction and stability control while non-PP cars can only turn off traction control. For a drag strip it probably doesn't make much difference. But if you take the car to a track with turns, you will notice it kicking in even with traction control off.

Interesting. I've never read this.

So when you say "faster" do you mean quick or fast ?

60ft times ? 1/4 mile times ? Trap speeds ?
Top speeds?

What's the theory on this ?
3.16 final drive effectively "shortening" all the gearing enough so that more shifts are required through say 60mph or 100-110mph ?

1st gear does feel almost pointless in my car.

@SilverSHO......

You are correct about PP cars having the ability to completely disable all TC and SC protocols.....

However, there was a gentlemen residing in WI. (Jason - user name jmr061) who was/is able to, through programming/IDS, get a Non-PP car to also disable all those same protocols as a PP equipped cars does from the factory. So you are mostly correct.

@cnatra.....

This was a hotly debated topic years back, and I realize your curiosity. In theory you would think the 3.16 would be faster, over the 2.77.....

Running a stock a tune file, it is, in all those categories you listed. But barely.

The key here being, once a tune is applied, the slight differences are no longer present, and the 2.77 is faster. Again in all categories listed.

Plenty of discussion on this, and I'm not as crafty in digging up all the posts which discussed it previously, as say SHOdded is.....

So research on your own, or perhaps Manu (SHOdded) will take the liberty of doing it for you.

If all else fails, Dan Millen would be an excellent person who's ear you can chew for a time, and he can explain it to you in greater technical terms, than I.

Yes the non PP cars (2.77) cars are on the top of the list as in 1/4 mile times, 60', trap speeds. I've raced both my SHO's 2012, and now 2013, both are PP cars. My best is 12.63, that is nothing compared to what Rich just ran at a 12.058 at 114. His car is a non PP car, and the fastest non meth car.

If this is the same guy I'm thinking of then he to my knowledge he only works on 13+ vehicles. I haven't contacted him but his website only gives options for 13+ models. If the guy you're talking about is different and can disable trac/stability control on 10-12 models, I would much appreciate if you could give me his info. I would love to hop on that and have the ability to turn off stability control for AutoX.

He (jmr061) was doing them for them 10-12 models at one point during the past.

I was trying to get mine up to him, so he can do mine, but our schedules never jived. Sigh.

@BamSHO......

No coincidence mine is a Non-PP and set records for the platform. But remember, Rich's SHO is just as much an anomaly as mine is.

Lol.

Thanks, I'm going to try to get a hold of him and see what he can do.

For me, probably the best 'street' aspect of the PP would be the better brakes. The traction control and stability controls would be a pain as Silver mentioned on a road course. When mine is ready, I will probably do the caliper and rotor upgrade - go with some TCE Wilwoods.

But the biggest downside is no adaptive cruise control!!! I would never give that option up!!! How did we live without this for so long!!? If you don't have to stop for lights, you can almost drive and never have to touch the pedals. LOVE IT! So spoiled. :p

I contacted him and he said he doesn't do it for 10-12 models and to do so would require "research and testing" so I'm out of luck. :(

Disheartening to hear.

I suspect he may have abandoned those efforts, due to lack of (overall) interest.

Afterall, besides me, you are the only other person I know of, who was interested. Likely wasn't a profitable venture for him.

Regardless, there IS the possibility of doing it, just have to find someone else willing, who is equally as tech savvy/proficient as jmr061 is/was.

That was my thoughts as well. I figured there wasn't much interest as most people are now getting 13+ models and the 10-12 models are the black sheep in that area.
