Just got my 2010 SHO and passed on the Ford dealership's extended warranty. Car runs strong mechanically, aside from a couple interior electrical issues that I have already addressed. Wondering if I need to revisit the idea of a warranty. I think they quoted me around $1,500 or so. Any big problems with the 2010s I should be worried about at this stage in it's life? ....I also thought about a cold air intake & a tune, which would probably VOID the dang warranty anyway. Reliability vs. Fun, hmmmmmm. Thoughts?

Gotcha, unfortunately it wasn't sold as a Ford certified used vehicle. I thought the price was right though, and went ahead with the deal. Any advice on a cai & tune if I decide to go down that road? Looked at a Roush intake that seemed pretty legit.

you do want the ford Premium care its 100.00 deductible, with the electronics's in these cars, a lot cheaper that paying for it out of pocket

Thanks for the link, going to "get a quote" when I get home and have access to my VIN #. Drove my other car to work today due to all the snow and ice left by this last storm. Thanks for advise y'all.

When I bought my car I got an extended warranty but found when I got home it was not a Ford warranty. Shame on me for assuming a Ford dealer selling a Ford CPO would sell a Ford warranty and shame on the Ford dealer for not even trying to offer a Ford warranty. I called them the next day and had them switch it over to Ford premium care.

If I had it to do over again I would have bought the premium care warranty for my local ford dealer and not the one 200 miles away where I bought the car.

I picked up a CPO 2011 SHO Saturday. I am still tyring to understand what I can do without voiding the warranty. My SHO only has 40k so that means I have 60k mile warranty or 2 year(Feb 6th 2018).

I called up my local Ford service manager and asked if I could put on an axel back exhuast. His reply was that I could do it so long as the manufacure of said part says it is "Ford Approved". He then said that somthing like Borla and Magniflow should be fine. But I have never seen anthing on any site saying that it would not void my warranty. He also said and Airraid or K&N CAI woudl be fine as well.

This make me nervous to do any upgrades without seeing something in writing. This is my first factory warrantied car. I would assume that if the service manager at my local Ford dealership tills me it is fine I should be good to go. Till somthing major happens...

Can anyone out there shad some light on their experinaces on adding simple boltons and dealing with warranty work? (I have been digging through forums trying to find a consistant answer.)

Don't make major, visible changes, though it helps to have a mod-friendly dealer. Sounds like these guys might be tune-friendly as well, if you think you can ask, ask.

Just be a little conservative with mods. Most people are anyway (at least on the SHO), and this should be OK:
  1. CAI (looks only, consider a dropin K&N filter instead)
  2. Catback Exhaust (mostly for sound, can be useful with a full intake/exhaust redo)
  3. Tune (only recommended from established vendors like Unleashed & LME; LET is a smaller vendor with the same credo tho) - always use high quality fuel
  4. Downpipes (makes the exhaust mods actually productive, but requires tune)
  5. 3 bar MAP (requires tune)
  6. Colder TStat (more beneficial with tune than without; allows for "hotter" tunes to be run)
  7. New Spark Plugs (SP534's are fine) gapped appropriately, usually 0.030 for tuned vehicles
  8. H&R Springs or Megan coilovers (w/ or w/out adjustable links) - the extra benefit of coilovers (new parts) is that you won't have to deal with the possibility of leaky shocks right away, since the car already has 40K on it
Always a good idea to keep the tuner and 2 bar MAP with you in the car in case you need to return to stock at any time (planned or emergency). While we all love to mod, doing the maintenance first will yield the greatest benefits for performance & longevity. Start there first. Don't forget to have the battery's CCAs checked with a modern digital load tester, replace if necessary. Highly recommended before you put on a tune or do any mods that need a tune. Modern cars are heavily dependent on strong batteries.

My consulting fee is you have to post extensive pics and mod history for your new ride :) Is your SHO Ingot Silver by any chance? Just curious.

Thanks for the reply. The one thing that I can't stand about the car right now is the fact that there is no real engine noise. Just some intake noise that the radio can overpower on a very low volume.

Going to start off small for now just looking to do a CIA and axel back exhaust for now just to give me something to listen to. I think I will hold off on the tune for a while, just so I don't have to reflash if I have any issues.

And yes my car is Ingot Silver...

the Ford Premium Care warranty is good at any Ford dealer in the continental USA.
