I just ordered a '15 and for giggles, I checked to see what's in store for '16 by googling 2016 taurus sho images.
2016 Ford Taurus SHO S
I'm not into that lower grille opening, but it's not as bad as the Focus. I do like what looks like both highway or running lights and fog lights. Here's a link to the article:

Here's a '16 MKS, but it should look the same from the side:

I like the roof line. Granted, what they actually come out with is hard to say, but you can see what they're thinking of doing. There's also a picture of the "2015 redesign" that came up so it goes to show that they don't know for sure what will be. At the Shanghai Auto Show, they had a Taurus RS. Here's a link to that:

Looks a Fusion on steroids

That's kind of the point. I've been tracking this topic for a while. I really want to buy a SHO but there are a few compromises that have prevented me from pulling the trigger. I have about another year on my current DD before the extended warranty runs out and forcing me to make a decision.

Anyway, the new Taurus, at least the China version, will be built on an extended Fusion platform. It will have a longer wheelbase than the current Taurus, meaning more interior and, especially, rear passenger space. It will also be a few inches shorter overall. Supposedly, this will result in a weight loss of a few hundred lbs. This addresses all the issues I have with the current Taurus and, subsequently, the SHO.

Everyone expects that if there will be a Taurus in the US, this will be it, but there hasn't been any official word from Ford. The expectation is that this information will be officially announced at the next NAIAS. I'm a little surprised that there isn't more insight or insider info regarding this on this site.

On a related note, the Lincoln Continental Concept looks fantastic and I'm pretty excited about that too.

Cheers.

I read that the 2.7 liter V6 ecoboost will be the next SHO engine. (3.5 liter only for trucks?)

I seem to recall the Nano (name for the 2.7L Ecoboost) could be in the line-up of available engines for the Taurus. I googled "ford nano application" and all I found was articles talking about it being in the F-150. I perused through one article and boy, did Ford put it through some torture testing it. They entered it in the Baja 1000 disguised and had no issues even with the totally stock cooling system. They only changed the air filter. I then google "ford nano sho" and didn't find anything there either about the Nano in the SHO. The Edmunds article was from March, 2014 about the 2016 SHO. It mainly focused on the lighter weight, 9-speed and the modified Fusion platform to be used. It did mention the 3.5 Ecoboost will continue in the SHO.

Bizarre - Lincoln is moving the MKS down to the (slightly stretched) Fusion platform (which the Taurus is also moving to), because they say the D3 platform is old and bulky and they need better fuel efficiency from their entire fleet. But now they're going to make the Continental, which will be on that same old and bulky D3 platform! Oh well, at least they'll be able to charge a lot more now for it lol

Isn't the D3 a Volvo platform? Even though the '15 is pretty much the same as the '10, I'm glad I didn't wait for a '16.

Yeah the D3 is a Volvo platform, Ford procured rights to it from the days when they used to own Volvo. Very good platform, very safe and durable too.

I like the fusion, but if its all true and it goes to a 2.7 and a streched fusion, I might have to buy another 14-15 and stash it in a rent it shelter somewhere until mine wears out :)

Ford keeps a very tight lid on future products. So far, nary a word on the next GT500, for instance. Anything on the www is pure speculation. I would be very surprised if the next SHO underperformed the current model. I look forward to seeing where Ford takes it. Until then, I'll happily drive my 2010, even though it is heavy as a tank and the brakes basically suck.

No one ever likes the way the next generation of a car they currently own looks...until they do, then they buy one!

The 2010-2015 is built on the Volvo platform sold initially 17 years ago, probably the oldest platform still in use by any vehicle maker. The stretched Fusion platform should be FAR better in all aspects, lighter, more rigid, much better handling, better interior room, faster accelleration (using the 3.5 TT), etc...

News flash..... a lot of mfg'ers draw similar styling cues across their product lines.

Personally, I could care less if any new SHO happens to "Look like a Fusion".....

The Fusion's a hot mid size car in it's own right(s).

To have a larger sedan like the SHO, on a lighter platform, with the same (or hopefully) more power levels than what's been offered up thus far in the 2010-2015 iterations is a most excellent concept IMHO.

:omgsho: I'll always drool over a SHO no matter what it morphs into! :omgsho:
