OK, so I'm so MAD at Ford making the 3.5 for the F150 with 420 Ft Lbs Torque!!! So why does the SHO get a lowly 350 lbs??!! I get that trucks need torque to tow and haul things, BUT torque is also what makes the car fly off the line! Isn't the SHO a performance sedan? So why the different engines? I'm also wondering what they did different from the SHO's 3.5 to get to 420 lbs in the F150!

quite a lot of stuff changed.
including, but not limited to, turbochargers, injection pumps, cams, pistons, heads, manifolds, block, intercooler and intake.

and as i understand it, ford was pushing the envelope on what the insurance companies wanted to insure as it was.

Also, a different mounting. The SHO is transverse (predominately front wheel drive) and the F150 a longitudinal (predominately rear wheel drive). Putting that much power to the ground in the current application is pretty darn amazing. And as 93Mark stated, there were insurance standards. I'm sure with minor modification (Livernois et al), you'll see numbers easily in the four to five hundred range...and with that, more wear.

F150 has bigger turbos to begin with, plus a lot has to be with packaging for the transverse versions. The driveline seems to be holding up real well to increase in hp/trq from the tuners.

Get a tune. Problem solved. ;)

I'm getting a tune with other performance mods but it would be very nice to have a starting point of 420 instead of 350. I can't wait to see and feel what the tune does!

You won't be disappointed. I have an Unleashed tune by Torrie and it rocks. I recently upgraded to a 3 Bar Map and wow.....insane power & torque for a V6.....

As I replied on http://eb-pf.com - different turbo sizes, different trans and more room for bigger turbos on the truck.
Plenty of power for the SHO for most people unless you're a madman like me and want MOAR! :D

The biggest reason above all is that because it's in a longitudinal setup, they can hook a much larger and stronger transmission to the engine that can support the additional torque for longer periods of time while towing.
