you cannot see anything except possibly the top of a piston when you pull a spark plug.

to see the injector o-ring, you need to pull intake and fuel rails and remove injectors. most of the ones I have had out lately, the injector o-rings were pretty loose, so its certainly possible to leak.

there is a way to confirm that the oxy sensors switch, it involves wiring them up and heating with a torch - search online and you can find instructions I'm sure.

Ok I'll check those oxy sensors but like I said they have to be fine logically. Husband said the sparks plugs would be black because of the orings and I knew that didn't make a lick of sense . With no garage I've made no progress so hopefully the weather will be better.

pulling the spout connector will drop the nox and hc almost in half, in my experience. sometimes that is enough to make it pass, other times it is not - depends on how far out it is. my experience is that these engines will almost, but not quite, pass with no cats even with spout pulled.
Do the SPOUT connector as above. Also, one more important thing - vent the PCV hose from the crankcase to the air and block the vacuum hose to the manifold.

The ugly crankcase fumes are sucked into the intake manifold and dramatically hurt your emissions. Doing the above let me pass emissions in Massachusetts, which has some very harsh limits on emissions. Be aware that you MUST do this in a way that is not obvious from a visual inspection.

After doing the above, just to be sure, you should clean your intake manifold because over the years the crankcase gases and oil fumes have put an ugly coating in the intake that can also hurt your emissions.

I have this setup as permanent, and I get a small boost in HP and MPG.
