So I got a good deal on the dynomax axleback kit. It was on sale from advanced auto for like $260, plus you get a $50 rebate and shipping was free.
I know it didn't add any performance but just wanted the car to sound a little more aggressive.
It sounds pretty good. Idle has a real low note very noticeable. Quick acceleration is also very noticeable, but once you get at a constant speed it is nearly silent in the car. I haven't drove on the freeway yet so we'll see if it drones then.
All in all it's great for the price and if you're looking for something for less than $300 and you can put on yourself in less than an hour.
The fit was ok, I had to use a tailpipe expander to make it easier to slide the pieces together. It clamps about 7-8 inches from the rear of the muffler. I might have it welded in if I can see the clamps.
Not use to this v6 sound, lol. I had a mustang gt before this and supped up 4 bangers before that. The v6 has a completely different tone. It doesn't sound fast (for lack of a better explanation). At first the car seemed slower to me cause I couldn't hear the intake as much, but after a few quick starts it definitely feels the same. I'll try to take some video to capture the sound.

I would really like to see pictures and hear a clip. NTB right by me is a dealer. It sounds like a lower cost option to a full exhaust I'd like to look into. The only part I'm afraid of is cutting the stock pipes. I would have them install and weld.

For the price I couldn't turn it down. I'd like to eventually go with a full exhaust from the turbos back but for right now this will do the trick. I want to focus on appearance mods next.

Cutting the stock pipes was easy. I'm going to see how much my local muffler shop will charge for welding it on instead of the clamps.

SHOspazz is correct. Dynomax has been used for many years on the older SHO's and they don't hold up to salt or rain very well, especially the mufflers. I like to find deals just like the next guy but be for warned sometimes you get what you pay for.

Well for the price if I have to replace them every two years it isn't that bad. If they do blow out I'll probably ante up for a corsa or magnaflow.

I doubt there is any gain in performance. I think gains aren't really seen until you start adding downpipes and taking off the 3rd cat/resonator.

It says the tips and clamps are stainless, not the muffler. I have the Dynomax cat-back on my '95 and it has never seen a winter since I've had it and they still have some rust on them, but nothing serious. Now that kit was installed about 10 years ago, so lets hope Dynomax has stepped up on the quality of their metallurgy/coatings since then.

You didn't see the part that said 2.5" mandrel bent "stainless steel" tubing. Also if you look at the link for the actual muffler it says they are all built with stainless and fully welded. http://www.dynomax.com/mufflers.php?muffler=ultraflowelded

I also painted the muffler housings with VHT ceramic header coating (flat black), just to help hide the body of the muffler behind the bumper.

Listen I know this isn't a "baller" status piece of equipment but for the price I paid you couldn't even have a muffler shop do some hack job with crush bent pipe and some cheap cherry bombs.

The dynomax systems for the gen1 and 2 cars were known not to last long. It looks like they have changed there materials for the newer cars.
I would also like to hear what they sound like.

I'm not real savvy with video, but I'll try to take one on my phone and post it this week. Hopefully it will capture the sound right.

Highway driving has hardly any noticeable drone. When you have the radio on like I normally do, you can't hear it all unless you drop gears to pass.

Still not use to the v6 sound. Only v6 I really like the sound of are 350z's.
they definetly sound good when you step on it, but from slow takeoffs the sound is weird.

I have the next two days off so maybe I'll be able to find time to make a video.
