Ever since I moved to a suburb, I have mostly highway driving. I don't think 18 is unusual for a SHO strictly city driving with lots of stop and go at long lights. That's about what I got IIRC. My Acura TLs also got about 18 city and they were comparable to the SHO size/weight wise, engine wise (225hp 3.2 V6).

On the way to the convention, I got 400 miles on a tank of gas and figured it to be 28 mpg strictly highway in the 95. I left my house and made it to the SC state line.

I go about 10 miles through dallas traffic to and from work...I rarely get on it in the city, and I don't warm mine up in the morning...but I average 17-18 city (and this is every tank).

However, I was also able to manage 400 miles on a tank of strictly highway driving last weekend. I will say, though, that my old green 92 that rusted out managed 32 consistently on trips between NC and TX...maybe it was all that weight reduction :nut:

everything that's been said here (mostly) seems to be repetition. I'm starting to think this is the norm.

Well I traveled from the north to the south and the most I got out of my tank was 382.2 miles and that was from full to right at E running off of 92 octane. My spark plugs are less than a year, both O2's less than 6 months, wheel size 225/45/18 catless new fuel filter less than 6 months with no working a/c and a valve cover leak with a clutch less than 40% new oil, K&N air filter cheesy hypertech chip rated at 9hp, a small untraceable vac leak, all new brakes system besides the master and booster and dirty coolant but ran right above the cold blue the whole time cruise set at 72 mph besides the times of running into construction and the set at 60 and that was with a combined weight of 315-320 lbs and thats two ppl back seat and trunk full of items combined weight of about 150lbs and a full cargo trailer made by form at about 450-500lbs, I think thats about it... So did I do good on gas mileage or no??? Do the math for me and tell me!!!

both O2's less than 6 months,

What brand of O2 sensor? The OEMs save the best ones for themselves. I use Motorcraft, figuring thats the best you can get. A difference of 0.05 volts effects the amount of fuel enrichment the EEC commands.

See my post earlier in this thread about checking for rear brake drag and ways of eliminating it.

Can't do any math without knowing how many miles you drove on the tank.

It sounds like your car has quite a few issues. I guarantee that the hypertech chip isn't doing you any favors in the mileage or power departments (unless it's running way lean), nor are the malfunctioning MAF and vacuum leak.

382.2 miles, unknown is how much fuel was used exactly. I guesstimated 16 gal and came up with roughly 23mpg.

With a fully loaded SHO, trailer, and **** poor maintenance plan, I'd say the fact that it made the trip is good enough to call it a success. Getting 23mpg is a bonus.

I drove 382.2 miles max. And yea it does have a few issues but I will work them out... But whats the best chip for the 89 SHO or the SHO's in general?

LOL Yea it was I was proud of it, but the poor maintenance isn't my fault... I bought the car that way and before that it sat in a garage for over a year, but I am trying to get it better maintained as I possibly can but I'm out of work which doesn't make it easy. I am going to even try to go as far as finding a parts car. Thats works to, that what a friend of mines does with his 3000GT VR-4.

Who are you talking about?

It's a tough love crowd around here. As for a chip, I wouldn't bother with an aftermarket tune unless you go beyond bolt on modifications. Not alot of gain without boost/nitrous/higher compression. Tune it last and beef up the suspension, tires, and brakes.

"F" higher octane, if will do nothing for mileage, and theoretically makes it worse.....

If it's stock and don't run on 87, you got other issues.

I've always gotten 18-20 in town, and 25-32 on the highway across 5 MTX Gen 1 & 2 SHOs.

On 87 octane. Even with a bolt-on stage and LPM.

Oh yea I know that. The brakes are cool, I'm riding Goodyear Eagle GT's and the suspension is good. I thought about going with a LPM for right now until I can get more upgrades. First out of the upgrades though I was going to upgrade the fuel system and then the turbo kit. But thats all going to go after the repairs.

Oh thats cool I guess but I will stick with the higher octane. The only problems wrong with my motor is a small vac leak, non working MAF, and leaking valve cover gaskets. It still runs and that all thats important to me right now. When it starts to give me bigger problems then I will fix it. If Premium gets to high like over $4.50 them I will consider 87 octane.
