While cruising at low RPM's (below 1500) at any speed, and then trying to accelerate normally, the car feels like it has 50 hp. It does not downshift until the accelerator pedal is pushed down beyond half way, at which point the car downshifts and accelerates rapidly (due to so much gas applied). I feel the car should downshift when initially applying the gas. Anyone else experience a similar problem?

When you have this issue, try this, Press the pedal lightly, let up and then press it again. See if it will downshift normally after that. Some trannys lock the converter up and wont downshift until a lot of throttle is applied unless you unlock the converter first. applying throttle, letting up and applying it again quickly will unlock it.

Not that this doesn't apply (it does, technically), but you do realize this is the Gen 4 section, right?

Anyway, it does sound like a problem. It has a dang 6 speed tranny, it should be utilizing them a little more than that. I'd take it into a dealer and have them look at it. Is it a repeatable problem?

I know this but I'd sure as **** hate to tell everyone that posts an issue in this section to simply take it to the dealership. Seems like it defeats the purpose of the "Gen 4 Maintenance & Troubleshooting" section.

Unlike our Gen 1, 2, and 3s, Gen 4s are all still under warranty. Why the **** would I fix a car when I can make the dealer do it for free?

Edit: Besides, not enough people know the Gen 4 well enough to peg something like that down. It's probably a sensor somewhere. Maybe even the VSS, if it even uses one.

Been to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong, therefore I am looking to see if others have the same issue and perhaps know of a cause, TSB, etc. Seems like it fits this sections - what I am missing?

There have been several accelleration problems posted this year. There are TSB's for tranny programming and other things. I hate to tell you to search, but I know some info is in this section. Use the feature at the bottom to see threads older than 10 days or the search function at the top--advanced search--you can type in search terms and search specific sections of the board to narrow it down to the new SHO model.

Several problems noted in this thread http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=107637

I have the same problem. Im pretty sure its a software issue to increase fuel milage. In most cases the car has enough low end touque to pull through just fine but I know what you mean. What I find myself doing is dropping the transmission in manual and drop a gear or two with the paddle shifter.

Yep, I notice that behavior too. If I have one complaint about this car, it's how "conservatively" geared the tranny is. The transitions between gears is horridly slow. IMO, the gears should be snapping into place like a good sports car (or like my old F-150 Lightning). Not quite sure they didn't do that with an SHO.

I agree. This trans needs a sporter feel to it. I need quick shifts and when I left off the gas I dont want it to jump to the highest gear.

Does anyone have a tune for TCM? Anyone?

I've got the same issue - I reported it more as a hesitation as thou the car doesn't want to move when you press down on the accelerator. More like its thinking.... I think he wants to go... then starts.

I took a mechanic out with me and he felt the issue and thought it maybe had something to do with the turbo units (maybe stuck wastegate). Its going back in tomorrow for a closer look.

Let me know how you make out.

PS - I had the TSB for reprogramming done - no difference.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I actually also reported it as hesitation during my first visit to the dealer, but then later realized the car did not have any acceleration issues when shifting manually. Two different dealers could not find an associated TSB.

The dealer did reflash my transmission to fix the other issue people have complained about where it slips and engages harshly when slowing to a stop, but accelerating normally around 10 - 20 mph (i.e., light turned green before stopping) - there is a TSB for this. This did not help with the hesitation/delayed downshift problem.

New Guys should check older posts.. :)

The car is made to up shift very quickly for gas mileage and for the fact that it has lots of TQ. so cruising around at say 40ish your in 5 or 6th gear... so when you step on it, it has to figure out what you want..

If your in 5th at 40 and you stomp it, the trans has to down shift and build boost.. thats your delay..

My tuners solve all of that.. Well most. Shoot me a email at [email protected] to end the delay..

Be aware! you will lose a MPG or 2 by doing this if you spend lots of time city driving.. but a 4-2 shift happens faster than a 5or6 to 2nd.
