I had a front 60K done to my 91 MTX. I have a noticeable whine under throttle and an oil leak on the front of the engine that did not exist before the 60k. The car only leaks oil when it is running. I believe the whine is from an overtightened timing belt. Is it possible for the belt to be so tight that a front main or cam seals got squished? Pulled the upper timing cover off and saw that the belt already has its markings worn of with a bunch of black dust inside. I do not have anymore than 4 miles on this belt.

Thanks for the help,
David

I believe there should be no more than 1/4" deflection on the belt. I'd check your cam seals. I know a lot of those seals do not fit correctly out of the box. What brand did you go with?

How much deflection do you have in the belt? Where is the oil leaking from?
Well the belt is very hard to move between the top two cam sprockets, very tight. Do not know how to measure the deflection. The oil is is hard to trace. I did not see any oil coming from the top 3 cam seals. The front main seemed dry too. I did see oil drops on the oil pan bolts above the crank. Its like it is coming from below the cam seals and above the front main. The car did not have one oil leak before the 60k and does afterward. Oil pan gasket looks good too.

I did not replace the seals as they were not leaking at all.

The only place that would leak oil from the front of the engine would be valve cover gaskets, cam seals and the crank seal... If the cam valve cover seals are not leaking then that leaves just one seal left. Luckily, its a 1 hour job... At least for me anyway. :nut:

I would loosen the tension on the belt a little bit. I would brake clean the oil off and leave the timing covers off run the car and look for the oil leak.
