So ever since I got my '94 ATX late last fall, I have been hearing the occasional thunk from the front passenger side spring. I had it up on a lift once and did a quick visual and all appeared good from below, but the noise kept happening.
So today I looked at the spring through the wheel well and look what I saw.

It is fairly clear that the spring is rubbing on the wheel well plastic flashing. Time for the Dremel tool.

A few minutes later and I cut this piece out.

And presto.... no more thunk thunk.

Moral of this story.... not all loud noises from the suspension are hard fixes. I hope this info is of value to some of you.

Thanks,

G.

There was no other damage/worn parts?
Broken spring?
Upper strut mount?

Yeah, you fixed the clunk, but not the problem. That shouldn't have ever hit in the first place.

The aftermarket Eibach and Koni adjustable struts with the camber/caster adjustment on my 93 was hitting the plastic liner as well. I did the same exact thing.

Well there appears to be no other damage, eg mounts or broken springs. I did notice the the plastic flashing has shifted a bit from the stock. I compaired it to the driver side. I this this car might of had a small bump on the passenger bumper and altough the bumper only had cosmetic (scraps) damage I think the plastic flashing might have shifted. Not too sure though. I will double check to be sure there is nothing else wrong.

Thanks for the feedback.
