I need to buy a new PCM (ECU), the computer (!), for my '89. I copied the following from the bar code label when I had it out, but didn't check any markings on the casing itself.

On one side was written:
EECIV SFI-MA20 32K EPROM
E9DF-12A650-G2B
6EC3940F53 14259-390 9D14

B9B1 was also written in very large type.

On the other side was written:
8907 2020
E9AF 14A624 AA

Is there a number in this maze of information that tells me exactly the proper PCM to buy for an '89?

Thanks.

The B9B1 is a number you can use. Any CA 89-91 CPU will work. Any reason for a new one? You might be hard pressed to find a new one.

No, I don't need a new-new one. I guess I meant a "good" one - i.e. it works - or a remanufactured one, if that is how they make "new" ones.

Hmmm ... I should add one thing. I purchased my car in Massachusetts in '89 and I don't have EGR on it. The ones that were sold in California all had EGR.

Does the CA in "CA 89-91 CPU" stand for California?

Was there a difference between the PCM on a non-EGR SHO and the one installed on a EGR equipped SHO in 1989?

I think I have a good one. Make a 30.00 donation to Bizzy and I'll mail it to you.

Yes , if you install a non-egr PCM in your car , all its gonna do is that your egr will stop working and you will get a CEL light always on.

Calif PCMs are hard to get by.

OK. How's this for complicating things.

Rock Auto has the following:

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # EM092
w/ M.T.; Fed.

A-1 CARDONE Part # 784742 {[Engine Control Computer] Reman.}
Federal Emissions; w/I.D. #E9DF-GB

A-1 CARDONE Part # 784741 {[Engine Control Computer] Reman.}
Federal Emissions; w/I.D. #E9DF-GA

A-1 CARDONE Part # 784743 {[Engine Control Computer] Reman.}
Calif. Emissions; w/I.D. #E9DF-HA

A-1 CARDONE Part # 784744 {[Engine Control Computer] Reman.}
Calif. Emissions; w/I.D. #E9DF-HB

A-1 CARDONE Part # 784278 {[Engine Control Computer] Reman.}
Federal Emissions; w/I.D. #F0DF-SA

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # EM10027
w/ M.T.; Calif.

So I have choice of
EM092
E9DF-GB
E9DF-GA
F0DF-SA.

When my part number is E9DF-12A650-G2B !!! Sheesh!!!

So the closest would be A-1 Cardone part # 784742.

Spoke to RockAuto and the rep called Cardone.

For an '89 w/o California emissions, the correct one for my car is E9DF-GB, Cardone part number 784742.

The "2" between the G and B in the ford OEM part number (E9DF-12A650-G2B) means nothing. It is some type of internal control number for Ford.

That computer is a 1990 non-CA computer: B9B1

So you need a non CA one. Do you have EGR? That would be a sure sign if you need CA computer.

So it looks like you need a non CA one 89-91.

The '89's came with a B9B so somebody put in a B9B1; maybe had an LPM chip since the B9B had no connector for one. I have the old B9B from my '89 know good; if interested pm me
