I don't know what that is. We have something called a California Special here that is the top of the line showboat. I think Ferrari had the same name years ago.

Boy is my face red. I must admit I don't know the jargon. It will be next year before I do anything, at the rate I get around to things. I bought one new car late in the year and cried every time someone dragged snow and mud into it during the seemingly endless fall - winter - spring season. But I was over it by the next year. Who knows, the shopping for SHO's will only get better as more are available. We never thought we would see next years model be cheaper than last years, but it has already happened.

It's cool, they use so many acronyms at Ford that I could never know them all. As for the 2011 Mustang, just wait for the LA Auto Show in a few weeks and you'll know why to wait.

That is right, remember I am in Canada and we don't have high expectations. The V6 convertible msrp is $30,199.00. The V8 is $41,699.00.

If you gotta have a Ford, that's one thing... but if you don't, the new Camaro V6 has 304HP, runs mid-low 14's, and starts at $22-something (US).

That is the performance bargain of the century.

next year the v6 mustang will have 315 hp and should run 13's outta the box

Haaa haaa!

Could be true! Ford did that back to us in 92, before that the SHO would **** the Mustang, then all of a sudden the Rotstang got a HP increase. Wow IIRC thats long ago but I think that was the or close to when Ford put the 5.0 in the LX so it would be much lighter than the GT.

So were back in 92, we have always made the SHO beat the mustang, no biggie :)

Wow, and I was happy with 210 HP! I remember the LX Mustang was the one to buy years ago, but I never knew exactly why (except for price). The little V6 has been ignored by Ford for a generation, there is nothing in Ford Motorsport to help it out. Most people only got to change the head gaskets, which were very failure prone and gave it a bad name. Even when you had the heads off - there was nothing you could do.
Before hearing this, one of my many strategies was to buy the V6, leave it alone while under warranty, then mildly supercharge it (after I changed the head gaskets, lol) to make it perform more like the V8. That way you got the lighter handling and better weight distribution of the 6 model with a little more snap when you wanted it.

The haa haa was directed at the Camaro plug. I think it would be pretty cool if the SHO could whoop a V6 Mustang. I was wondering how my SHO would stack up against my Mustangs, but I don't think it would fare well. The SHO has about a 40-60 hp advantage but it's about 1000 lbs heavier and geared a lot taller. I thought Roush was doing a turbo or supercharged V6, but all I found was cosmetics for it.

Word has it the 2011 'stang will be powered by the 3.5L V-6 from the Taurus family. And for us ol' schoolers, the 5.0L is making a comeback to replace the 4.6L. From an old spy pic though I don't think its the push rod style though. Probably a SOHC motor hopefully. Just when folks were getting the 4.6/5.4 mod motors down to a science Ford goes and changes things yet again. Hopefully for the better. :swing:

The 3.5 in the Mustang sounds great, no need to supercharge that! They can bring back the 5.0 if they want, but I never missed it. Not the old one anyways. A sohc or dohc would be a good idea though. Why have they never done anything with the Gen 3 SHO motor? It was their own design, and surely it could be developed further. Aside from the cams, they were OK, right?

Yep its as good as the v6 for longevity, and the nottom end is built bigger and stronger than the v6.

The 5.0 motor is the coyote motor from down under. Here's a couple articles on it.

The SHO replaced my F-250 for a daily driver since I have no use for that truck anymore. When I picked it up, the GM at the dealer said I'll bet he won't be driving his Mustangs much anymore... I think he'll be on the money there. Maybe I'm getting old, but I really enjoy driving the SHO... alot!

Wow, 402 HP from the new 5-liter, what is happening here? In 89, the 200 HP barrier seemed nearly impossible when the SHO broke through it with style. With this rate of development, lawn mowers will soon have 200 HP!

It was their own design, and surely it could be developed further.
As I understand it, the V8 in the Volvo XC90 (or is it the XC70?) is an evolution of that engine, and was originally slated to be in the Lincoln MKS until the EcoBoost (nee TwinForce) mill supplanted it. Given that it's reportedly very expensive to build and is barely competitive with current high-end V6es, it's not terribly surprising that it hasn't expanded past the Volvo application.
